40 BETRAYAL

Ian listened to the mind conversations and waited for a moment when everyone was concentrating and slipped into the darkness of the tunnel. He knew what was going to happen above. The S’iruss and Grouth that were going to take control would be trapped in the place where the hole to the surface had been created. He was not sure how everything would turn out but it had become a foregone conclusion that all but one of the insurrectionists would be killed. When he had heard about the traitor among the Grouth he knew then that he had to go and try to save these beings from destroying each other. He did not know where Jimmy and Isaac had got off to but he did know that they had a mission to complete themselves. He could not move out of time and back in down here so he hurried out into the big central cavern and over to the tunnel that led upward. The tunnel had dim lighting spaced about 50 feet apart it seemed and he had noticed the same in the tunnel where the team was now.

He was astonished that the others could not see that Issona’s spirit left the corporeal body and passed through the rock and earth above. It was this way with all life in the universe and even in the different dimensions. Life is life and the spirit resides always and everywhere. It is the choosing of where the spirit goes into a corporeal form that determines where, when, what type of corporeal container they become to learn. Life is infinity and learning is infinity and it all is in motion forever. Ian was moving constantly, it was like pushing on a gas pedal of the old fashioned engines. The spirit could go fast or apply brakes and move at a slower pace but never could stop. However the corporeal body could stop even as the spirit was moving. He came upon an expansive cavern of the lowest level of the Kireals. It was empty or so he sensed it. He could hear voices on the other side that seemed to be coming from another tunnel. He hurried across the expanse and entered the tunnel. The slope of the floor was steeper than the one he had left and went steadily upward. The voices had become quiet so he levitated himself and moved upward.

ISonda had given Isssho and ISHoooo the old style military weapons as well as he had one. The other 5 of his rookery carried the short metal rods that most of them carried these days. He had told Isssho and ISHoooo to shoot G’digggg-Rs, G’hammm-Rs and G’shovelll-Ls as soon as they overtook and killed the Kireals in the surface entrance area. These three were the strong leaders of the Grouth and as soon as the others saw how they died they would surrender to the S’iruss easy enough or be killed along with there leaders. He meant to take control in one fell swoop and then he would go back and gather the colony after killing the old wise S’mon and assuming the master position, and bring them all up to the Kireal level. They could then begin their excursions to the surface.

The 18 insurrectionists entered the main cavern of the upper most level and moved swiftly across the expanse. G’shovelll-Ls appeared to know which tunnel to go to and led them directly toward it. G’digggg-Rs and ISonda both were leery and suspicious that He did not hesitate to even look around for any Kireal. G’digggg-Rs Halted the group just a little over half way to the tunnel they seemed to be heading for. ISonda came close to G’digggg-Rs and asked in a quiet voice. “Why have we stopped, there is no cover out here and if we are to surprise the Kireals in the cave of the surface hole we must hurry.” G’digggg-Rs looked at the S’iruss with disdain and then turned to G’shovelll-Ls. “How is it you know with such certainty that the tunnel you are leading us to is the right one? I know you have never been up to this level. You were not in the diggers group when we had to dig that new hole for these snakes.” G’shovelll-Ls tried to avoid the question by using the S’iruss’s concern for secrecy and urgency. “We must hurry across this cavern before we are seen. This S’iruss is correct in his surmise that we cannot be caught before we spring our surprise attach or we will all be killed.” He turned to continue their forward movement but G’digggg-Rs grabbed his arm and said “Answer me; it appears you may have been here after all and you seem to be leading us into an unknown tunnel.” G’hammm-Rs came up quickly and back armed G’shovelll-Ls who promptly fell to the ground. “Answer the leader you mole or I will beat you.”

Ian had reached the opening into the main cavern and saw the group stop on the far side. He watched as the altercation happened and saw one of the Grouth knocked to the ground by one of his own. He watched the S’iruss group move away from the Grouth and stand in a separate place. He could see some raising the old military rifles as if they were going to start shooting. The individual Grouth that had been knocked down got to his knees and started to speak loudly.

G’shovelll-Ls got to his knees and looked up at the leader and his toad, as he thought of him. His anger at receiving the beatings from these two overwhelmed him and his tongue spewed his betrayal at them. “Yes I have been here many times; I have found better treatment from the Kireals than you will ever give me. I work for the Supreme leader now and you will die this day for your blatant insurrection against him.” He looked around and could see the S’iruss standing off to the side. You all will die this day and I will become the leader of our coterie and the S’iruss will be enslaved to us as well as the Kireals.” G’digggg-Rs pulled his short pike that he always carried and moved toward the traitor. He was going to impale him and leave his carcass for the worms to eat. His second step came up short as the green ray shot from the tunnel and vaporized the traitor. He looked up quickly and saw the group of Kireal coming from the tunnel, their weapons lit up on the end. The loud bang from the old style military weapons of the humans made him flinch and the chaos became overwhelming.

Ian became invisible and levitated into the air. He flew over and hovered between the different groups. The green rays were flowing through the air toward the Grouth and the S’iruss as the old style projectiles were moving toward the Kireals. Before he could freeze the skirmish, two of the Kireals went down and 4 of the Grouth were vaporized as well as one of the S’iruss. He stopped time and removed the weapons by making them disappear to a place that melted them.

In the cave where the hole was that led to the surface, SSsss’Ya-Ki, SSSss’Ma-Ki and SSsS’Ur-Ki heard the bangs of the human weapons and the sounds of their own weapons being fired. SSsss’Ya-Ki knew that they had been betrayed by the Supreme leader and had instructed Ma-Ki and Ur-Ki to be ready for a surprise attack from the tunnel. He did not know how it would be or how many would be in the party. He had discovered that the weapons they had been given were disabled so he switched them for fully operational ones before he and the other two were sent to this position. He meant to burn anyone that came through the tunnel and any human that came from the surface. He was going to find K’Sssha-Ki and make him grovel before he slowly tortured him to death. He would then take Ma-Ki and repair the gate so they could bring more here for the invasion of this world. The sounds had given him an alternative. They did not know what might be happening but he decided to go to the surface and kill the humans first before coming back to take over. He pushed Ur-Ki to go first as he was a soldier and expendable.

On the surface, Hanna and Joe were on their third shift at manning the old .50 cal machine gun. They had set up the gun in-between some old empty 55 gal drums one was on the gun and could see the cap on the hole while the other lay behind a mound to the side and watched with infra red field glasses. SSsS’Ur-Ki slithered up the hole with the other two behind him. When he reached the hatch, he hesitated for a moment. SSsss’Ya-Ki asked him what he was waiting for. Ur-Ki slowly twisted the lever to unlatch the hatch and opened it just enough so he could see if any humans or animal life of this planet were in the area. He had done this before and discovered that mostly there was no one outside. He didn’t see any signs of movement so he opened the hatch so he could climb out. He was halfway out when the first bullets from the .50 tore into his body. He was hit in the head and the upper torso and fell back into the hole.

Hanna was looking through her glass when she saw the movement on the ground where the hatch was supposedly located. She watched until the hatch was opened completely and gave Joe the signal. Joe had put on his night vision visor and when the head of the alien popped up he waited for the creature to get at least halfway up before he squeezed the trigger on the .50. The distinct rata-tat-tat of the old machine gun was heard by everyone on the surface. They all grabbed their weapons and rushed from the barracks and the bunker station. Hanna was the first to rush the hole and came up on it with her old semi automatic 12 ga shotgun. She meant to blow anything that moved into the next world. The blood or at least that is what someone might call it was an orange blue color and it was spattered all over the hatch that was still open. The hole was dark and quiet. Hanna stayed vigilant while everyone else showed up with their weapons at the ready. Hank was the first to speak. “What the hell happened?” Hanna turned to him and said. “We killed one of those things as it came up. Joe blew it all to hell. Here look,” and she showed the spattered blood on the hatch and in the dirt around the hole. They all looked at the stuff that looked like blood but didn’t and Hank took Tim and they closed the hatch. George had moved around the perimeter looking for any sign that one or more of them had gotten through before the one that was killed. Never one to take chances he searched pretty thoroughly but could not find any sign. Hank finally told everyone to be on the alert and told Hanna, “good job now let’s keep our eyes open and we will relieve you and Joe in about 1 hour.” Hanna was jumpy and so was Joe because he finally saw what the things looked like and it was major scary. When he got back to his .50 he made sure it had plenty of ammo and the belt was clear. He sat and poured himself a cup of coffee and added a touch of straight Kentucky bourbon. His nerves were frayed at the moment and that served to calm him a bit. He gave some to Hanna who scooted over and took the cup but kept her eyes on the hatch.

SSsss’Ya-Ki was just below SSsS’Ur-Ki when he opened the hatch. He waited for Ur-Ki to climb out and then the noise rattled his senses and Ur-Ki’s fluid rained down on him. His body was next and fell hard against him and knocked him back down the hole which in turn collided with SSSss’Ma-Ki and they all fell to the cave floor from the hole. The fluid and mangled body of Ur-Ki was on top of them. SSsss’Ya-Ki pushed the dead body from him and rolled away. SSSss’Ma-Ki made a sound like a cry and rolled away also. As he rolled to a stop and got to his knees to get up he froze with fright. At the edge of the tunnel was a small human standing and looking at the carnage. Both aliens started to grab for their weapons but they were buried under the mangled body of Ur-Ki. SSsss’Ya-Ki slowly righted himself and spoke to the human. “Are you going to kill us human” he said in his native tongue. Ian did not immediately understand the alien until it spoke once more. “What are you doing here? We were told that humans could not come here except through this old passage. How did you get here?” Ian finally grasped the language and spoke back. “I am here to remove you from our world. You must go back to your world.” SSsss’Ya-Ki wanted to kill this little human but his weapon was lying under Ur-Ki. He thought if he could stand he might have a chance to overcome the human. SSSss’Ma-Ki was kneeling off to the other side and if he could keep this human distracted then Ma-Ki could grab him. He thought to use the mind technique on him like they did with the others.

After Ian froze the time for the groups, he removed all the weapons and sent them away. The two dead Kireals that had been shot with the old style rifles lay in a pool of their own fluids. Ian touched them and they disappeared. The ones that had been shot with the green rays had already disappeared as their molecular structures dissolved. He heard the ruckus in the tunnel and hurried through it. When he reached the open cave he saw the two aliens roll away from a dead one that was loosing fluid rapidly. He understood as he looked that these three had tried to escape and were dealt with on the surface by the Group of humans that were tasked to keep them from getting away. Both aliens that were still alive had rolled to each side of the dead one and one spoke to him. At first he did not understand but as the creature spoke again he grasped the language and told the one why he was there. The one that talked to him was slowly trying to stand and Ian could see a clear picture of how this one was going to attack him. He could also see the other one starting to maneuver to get around him. The one directly in front tried to do something with a mind thought at him so Ian froze him and then turned to the other and spoke to him.

“You are the one called SSSss’Ma-Ki and I can see that you are one that can operate the gate. Can you make it work?” SSSss’Ma-Ki was surprised and confused all at once. Here was a small human talking to him so he could understand and he had done something to SSsss’Ya-Ki to make him not move. He was tongue tied at first but seemingly his mouth began to speak. “Who are you, and what have you done to SSsss’Ya-Ki.” Ian had wondered about the three in here and why they were not with the others. He spoke and said, “You must answer my question first. Can you repair the gate?” Ma-Ki stood quiet for a moment and finally said “yes I could repair the gate but I am afraid that our Supreme Leader has made sure it cannot be repaired.” Ian knew that there was a working gate still in operation on this level. He did not know exactly where it was so he said “can you show me where the damaged gate is located?” Ma-Ki turned sideways and looked at Ya-Ki, “what have you done to Ya-Ki?” Ian moved over to Ya-Ki and around him and to the center where the dead alien lay. “Ya-Ki is stuck between time and no-time at the moment. He can hear and see what is in front of him but he cannot move” As he spoke these words he touched the dead alien and made it go away. He then touched the weapons and they also disappeared.

SSSss’Ma-Ki watched the little human perform his actions of making the body of Ur-Ki disappear along with the weapons. He listened to the human tell him that SSsss’Ya-Ki was stuck between time and no-time but did not understand how that worked. He was deciding to lead this human to where the defunct gate was located. He was thinking that if he cooperated with him for now he could possibly overtake the little being and then he could help Ya-Ki and they both could find the Snake Supreme Leader and destroy him. He had no idea what had happened to the others that were in the tunnel. Maybe if he took the human into the tunnel the others could attack and he could somehow get his hands on a weapon. Ian knew the aliens mind and stayed on the alert. He gestured for the alien to walk into the tunnel while leaving the other frozen in between time and no-time. He would come back and retrieve him as well as the others that they would now walk by on the way to the broken gate. SSSss’Ma-Ki slowly moved into the tunnel and Ian followed wearily. He was thinking of the other team members as he followed behind the alien

41 THE FREEING OF THE S’IRUSS

Jimmy did not know how he had come to the tunnel entrance so quickly. He did not remember walking from the center of the cavern and when he turned to look back, he could not see the rest of the team. The eagle flew down from the ledge and swished by his face. He turned sharply and saw the bird glide into the dark tunnel. His spirit moved and he began to walk after the bird. Something told him to remove his bow and place an arrow on the nock. He could see small dim lights that seemed to be spaced a good 50 feet apart. The bird had flown to another ledge about 100 feet into the tunnel and rested until he caught up and then it glided off and went further in where it again rested on a ledge. Jimmy knew he was being guided through this tunnel. He did not know how far it was or what to expect at a destination point. The eagle flew once more and went around a corner and disappeared. When Jimmy reached the turn in the tunnel he cautiously slowed down and looked around the bend. In the distance and he guessed maybe a 100 yards, he could see a much brighter light. It looked as if the tunnel ended and dumped out into another cavern. He saw the eagle perched on another rock to the side of the tunnel and hurried to the side that could not be seen from the cavern in front. He noticed from this point, there were many boulders in the tunnel of which he could conceal himself as he approached the cavern. He made his way stealthily to around 50 feet from the opening into the cavern and heard voices. The voices sounded loud and even angry. He could see an outcropping at the entrance where he could get a good view of what the cavern looked like and who might be in it doing all the talking. He could see the eagle sitting on the outcropping and moved around and darted over. The bird did not move but rather became more transparent as he approached until it virtually disappeared when he came to the place and stopped.

IIsotta and Isttton had been given the old military weapons and told to gather the rest of the colony and keep them in the main rookery cavern. ISonda had already told all the others that they would be kept safe with IIsotta and Isttton guarding them. Some had rebelled against this move and called it slavery IIsotta had to shoot some of the most outspoken before the rest shrank away and dared not make any more moves against him and Isttton. ISonda had taken 10 others with him to subdue the Kireals this day and the promise of being free from the Kireal overlords had both of them waiting on edge for ISonda to come and tell them their slavery was over. They both knew that ISonda was going to remove the old wise S’mon from power and assume that position him self. They had no idea that ISonda meant to kill the wise/teacher. They had to threaten the remaining colonists every so often to keep them subdued. Just two of them, was a bit hard to keep all the others corralled and keep watch on the tunnel at the same time.

Ishoona and ISHoda had left the locker place and made it to the big cavern fairly quickly. They then hurried to the tunnel that led to the main rookery. They both spoke in the mind as was there way and ISHoda said, IIsotta and Isttton will be guarding the colony and we know that ISonda has given them the weapons. When we reach the rookery we must use the mind technique to disarm those two. Ishoona spoke back, when we accomplish this, what are we to do then? If ISonda comes back he will have many with him and more weapons. We will not be strong enough to overcome him. As they discussed their predicament, they had come close to the edge of the main rookery and reached out to hear the thoughts of those in the big cavern.

Jimmy was concealed behind the big boulder at the entrance and had heard the slight noise of someone in the tunnel as the two females approached. He was at the top of the rock in a prone position and slowly looked around to see the two as they stopped at the bottom of the rock. He could feel the sensation in his own mind as these two talked in the mind but he could not clearly understand them. He desperately needed to hear them and ventured to speak in the mind to them. His attention was divided between the ones in the cavern and these two new comers as he spoke. Who are you and why have you come to this place when clearly it is being guarded by the ones that have the weapons?

ISHoda was the first to realize that a human was speaking to her in the mind. She knew that the humans in the locker area could speak in the mind and she understood them. She did not know where this human was but he seemed to be close. Ishoona heard the human speak also and looked around as did ISHoda. Jimmy watched both of them look around and then saw one look up at him. She stopped as she saw him and said, you are one of the humans that came and helped us in the locker area. I am ISHoda and this is Ishoona and we are here to help our colony be free from those that have the weapons. Why are you here? what is your name? Jimmy finally understood their language and said I am Jimmy Whitefeather and have been drawn to this place to help free your people. The two that appear to be guarding the others have human weapons and they are deadly. I can make them go away but I must be close to accomplish that. ISHoda understood and told Jimmy that her and Ishoona could go in and do a mind thing with the two and get them to drop their weapons. She wanted him to wait for them to do that. Jimmy said he would wait but he would pay close attention to the guards. ISHoda and Ishoona walked into the big cavern and began to make their way toward IIsotta and Isttton.

IIsotta and Isttton had gathered the remaining colony members together in a large enclosed area. After IIsotta had shot 4 of the members for rebellion, the rest of them became subdued and refused to speak or make any other moves against the two. IIsotta had completely turned against his own peoples and it seemed he had no compunction against killing now that he committed the first murders. Isttton had doubts about this whole affair and when IIsotta killed the 4 that spoke against them and what ISonda was doing, he became afraid of him. He still had some skills with mind talking but he never spoke about it and this altercation of death had made him more aware of thoughts from his fellow colonists. He did not know how many of them still might be able to talk in the mind or even read thoughts from others but he guarded himself stealthily. IIsotta was talking in the loud voice about how they would take control of the surface dwellers after they subdued the Grouth when Isttton saw some of the colonists looking toward the tunnel direction. He turned quickly and saw the two females walking toward them.

Isttton stood quickly and IIsotta spun around and stood also. They both brought their weapons into a ready position. IIsotta spoke softly to Isttton and said “I wonder where Sironna the oldest is. These females were locked up by ISonda before they left to kill the Kireals. Be very careful with them, they still have the powers of the mind and can affect us. Somehow they have escaped and that alone gives me worry. We must capture them before they use the mind power on us and place them in the lock cave that is to the rear of the rookeries.” IIsotta knew that he would probably have to knock these two out and drag them to the cave or shoot them. His taste for blood had completely dulled his being at this time and he didn’t care one way or the other how he was going to subdue these females. He was very worried that the older one wasn’t with them.

Jimmy watched the two females walk toward the two guards that had the weapons. He was quite worried for the two that he had just met. He could hear their thoughts and how they would use the power to control the two and get them to drop their weapons. As he listened and watched he saw his spirit guide swoop down from the cavern ceiling and land on a ledge above the main body of colonists. The spirit was moving its head back and forth and looking straight at the two guards. Jimmy had taken an arrow and nocked it. He became more tense and jumped from the top of the boulder to the tunnel floor and inched himself around the rock until he could see the two females and the guards. The distance was around 75 yards by his reckoning so he calculated how high to raise his bow if he were to take a shot. The females were just a little to the side of his view and he prayed they would not move into his line of sight of the targets.

Ishoona and ISHoda could hear the human’s thoughts as they slowly walked toward the two guards. They both stayed to the side and moved further away toward the area where the rest of the colonists were congregated. When they reached a short distance from the two they stopped. IIsotta was the first to speak. “How is it that you have escaped from the locker room and where is Sironna?” ISHoda knew they were not close enough to use the power of persuasion yet. They had to be within a few meters to make it work. She slowly began to inch herself closer as she spoke. “ISssstona released us after ISonda left. Sironna has gone to try and talk ISonda to stop his ill conceived plan before he is killed.” IIsotta was on his guard and did not trust this female. He knew that if she got to close to him she could force his will. Isttton had moved off to the side and was paying close attention to the two females. He could hear their thoughts in scattered pieces. Ishoona had kept quiet and inched her way toward Isttton. He was paying more attention to ISHoda and IIsotta at the moment but he heard ISHoda began to use her mind control on IIsotta as she slowly moved closer to him. IIsotta seemed leery but he could not hear or feel the female as of yet. A few more feet and she would be able to control him. Isttton pulled the trigger on the human military rifle and the shot rang out and echoed off the ceiling of the cavern. ISHoda fell backwards and the first arrow grew into Isttton’s neck. The second arrow plunged into the chest of IIsotta. Isttton dropped the rifle and fell to the side while IIsotta let out a scream and discharged his rifle into the air as he fell backwards.

Jimmy could tell by the mind talk that things were accelerating beyond control. He moved away from the rock and quickly ran forward into the cavern. The explosion of the rifle brought him up and he raised his bow and let the arrow go toward the alien that had discharged the weapon. His next arrow that he nocked in a flash flew into the chest of the second alien. He watched the first female fall backwards as he let loose his arrows and knew she had been hit badly. The second shot rang out while the echoes of the first one still bounced off the cavern walls. He hurried to the scene as Ishoona made her way to ISHoda’s side and knelt down. He came to a stop next to the two females and saw the other colonists moving away from the group they had been closely corralled into. Four of them came over quickly and gathered around ISHoda and Ishoona. They all stood in a circle around ISHoda and he had to move back. He watched in amazement as they raised their arms and spread their hands outward. It appeared to him that a ball of light formed over ISHoda and slowly dissolved into her. Within a few moments, the wound she had sustained began to close up. Jimmy saw the eagle fly over and land directly on the little alien. A very bright blue light consumed ISHoda and the eagle and the group began to back away. As they moved backward the light began to fade until all that was there was ISHoda. She opened her obsidian eyes and looked directly into his. He did not know what just happened and ISHoda’s stare captivated him. The mind thought was warm and filled with love. Uyriou ptrw Jumarstyx, ptrw vaer qw ghashic iuo ze vaer reviuytd. Jimmy heard and understood. ISHoda had said (Thank you Jimarsa, you are a brother and we are grateful.).

Jimmy did not know what to say, He wondered where his spirit guide went and then he found himself being surrounded by the colonists while ISHoda and Ishoona took him by the hands and guided him deeper into the rookery. The three of them entered a well lit side room from the main cavern and Jimmy could see what appeared to be cushions. The two females offered him to sit down. He did so and then the other four that had formed the circle around ISHoda came in and sat down on other cushions close by. He was quiet as all this was happening and his Spirit guide swooped in and landed right next to him. The bird looked around at the aliens and then turned to him and spoke. You have helped save these peoples, they are beginning a process of relearning their true ways. ISHoda and these other five are the only ones beside the one that is with your other team members that still retain the old ways, that know how to speak in the mind. They are a very spiritual species and they will be instrumental with first contact to the human race. There is a way for them to go home and you have the knowledge to fix the matter. You must listen to the one that was healed. She will explain to you and take you to the gateway. There are not many here now and some will die this day in another place. You are now part of these peoples and you will be one of the first to bring the humans and the S’iruss together. Jimmy’s heart could feel the love as he looked around at the aliens and watched his spirit guide lift up and disappear. The aliens reminded him of the children he used to teach before he became a soldier. He was the student here. ISHoda was closest to him and began to tell him about the gate in the locker room they had been freed from. He knew he would be going there next on his journey, his quest.

42 BOMBS AND GREEN MIST

Sironna led the team from the locker cave out to the main cavern and moved to the tunnel that would lead them up to the Kireal levels. She had told them about the place where the green mist was and how it would kill all of them if they entered the sealed tunnel. She was going to show them where the doors were and then she would hurry back to be with her colony. She also told them that there were guards outside the doors and if anyone approached without the Supreme leader or his order they would be killed immediately. The Mist tunnel was on the uppermost level of the Kireals and was close to the Supreme leader’s place of living.

Sironna brought the team to the main cavern on the lower level and they all stopped and looked around. There was zero activity in the cavern and they began to move across the expanse. Two thirds of the way across, they heard the cracking explosions of weapons. Sironna stopped suddenly and the others also came to a halt. Theresa spoke, “that sounds like those military rifles that the guard had.” Michael and Daniel began to hurry across the expanse. “Come we may be to late to save any of them, It sounds like the battle has begun.” Sironna watched as the two humans ran forward. She could see that they were heading toward the wrong tunnel and spoke as quick and as loud as she could. “Stop, you are going the wrong way.” The two men did not hear her so Susanna spoke in a loud voice that brought them both to a stop. “Sironna says that is the wrong way and we must follow her.” Sironna looked at Susanna and then moved toward the correct tunnel which was 3 tunnels to the right of where Michael and Daniel seemed to be heading. They all fell into step with the alien as she quickly made it to the tunnel. She stopped for a moment as they all caught up. Sironna raised a hand as if to make them quiet and listen. The lack of sound was ominous and Sironna began to move into the tunnel. The steepness of the path was surprising to the team but they all determined to keep up as the little female alien seemed to float up the path.

The tunnel was longer than they expected and it seemed to take forever to reach the opening into another large cavern. All they could see was the top of a ridge as they looked out into the cavern. Sironna told them that it was the center of the cavern and the ridge had been formed when the ceiling collapsed during the first wars. Daniel looked up at the ceiling and could see where part of it had fallen in. “Those shots must have come from the other side of that ridge.” Theresa asked Sironna, at this point, “Which way do we go to find the tunnel of green mist?” Sironna hesitated for a moment and then said “we must stop the destruction that is surely to happen, first.” “Yes Sironna we shall do that first but you must at least show us this green mist tunnel before we go and help save your peoples and the others.” Sironna was clearly divided in what to do next. Theresa could feel her fear. She knew that Sironna was deathly afraid to go near the area of the green mist tunnel and also knew that she was afraid of the colonists that had come to kill the Kireal species. She spoke into the mind of Daniel and told him to go with Michael and Susanna to stop the bloodshed and she would go with Sironna to find the entrance to the where the nuclear bombs were stored.

Michael, Daniel and Susanna heard Theresa tell them she was going with Sironna and they should go and see about stopping the skirmish in front of them. Susanna did not want to leave Theresa and said she would go with her and Sironna. “Didn’t Sironna say that there were two guards at that entrance?” Sironna could not help herself and said “yes there usually are two watching the doors and they will burn you away if they see you. I can only take you a little distance and then I must hurry back to the colony.” Michael made the decision for the women to go with Sironna while he and Daniel went to stop the skirmish. They all knew they had the ability to be invisible and could use the TMG’s to make things disappear to a very far away place in time and distance. They all had the protective vests on so Susanna and Theresa took Sironna and the little alien led them to the left along the cavern walls. Michael and Daniel activated their dispance cloaks and levitated toward the ridge.

“Those beings do not appear to be moving, but why are they standing and not fighting?” Michael asked Daniel as they had landed on the ridge and looked out across the cavern to where the groups of aliens stood with no movement. Neither one of them knew what had happened at this point. Finally Michael levitated again then both of them floated toward the scene. As they approached they both could see the S’iruss and what they assumed where the Grouth, all perfectly frozen. Some seemed to have been moving forward. Michael was looking around and then spotted the other alien species that appeared to have come from a tunnel. He had to think that these were the Kireals but could not be sure. He could see at least two of them lying on the ground. He turned to see Daniel examining the S’iruss and said “what do you suppose happened here?” Daniel had walked around the small group of S’iruss and came over to Michael. “I would say that our missing team member came here and tried to stop the bloodshed. It appears he might not have made it in time because it looks like some of these fellows got killed. You see those scorch marks on the ground? I think that there were some aliens there before they were disintegrated. Could be that those disrupter weapons, leave some sort of residue.” “Yeah and there are some in that group dead also, they may have been killed with the human rifles. I could see at least 2 on the ground but there may be more. So you think Ian has been here?” Daniel thought for just a moment and then said “That is the only explanation I can come up with at the moment. It looks like he made all the weapons disappear also.”

ISonda had pulled his people to the side as the altercation began between G’digggg-Rs and G’shovelll-Ls. He quietly instructed Isssho and ISHoooo to prepare their weapons. As G’shovelll-Ls was knocked to the ground and then harassed by G’digggg-Rs he crawled to his knees and spoke his betrayal to all of them. ISonda watched as G’digggg-Rs pulled his pike and moved toward the traitor. The green ray came from the tunnel where they were heading and burned the traitor into a slag pile. He turned with his peoples and began to shoot toward the Kireals. He watched the four top leaders of the Grouth all get hit with green rays and melt into slabs of debris. One of his companions was hit and disintegrated. He, Isssho and ISHoooo had managed to take three of the Kireals down before everything stopped. He could only look forward and then a small human stood in front of him and made his weapon disappear. He saw the human move to the Kireals and make all their weapons disappear and then the human went into the tunnel. The next thing he saw was the human come from the tunnel with a Kireal and walk right past them. He could not move any part of his body. He did not know where the human and Kireal were going. He stood looking straight at the Kireals in front of him and they were not moving either. He could breathe and see straight in front and that was all he could do.

He had seen G’digggg-Rs and G’hammm-Rs get burned just after G’shovelll-Ls was burned as he groveled on the ground. He saw one more Grouth get burned and then he and the others opened fire on Kireals. ISSSSool was the next one to receive the green ray and his essence dissolved much faster than the Grouth. All of this seemed to be an eternity in the past and then he heard the voices very close. He could not see anything and the more he heard the voices He finally understood that they were coming from the surface dwellers or humans as Issona called them. As much as he tried he could not move and then he saw the humans become visible. There were two of them and they were walking toward the Kireals. He was awash with confusion. He did not know that the surface dwellers could become invisible. It seemed they had technology well beyond his race. It made him think that the surface dwellers could kill them all with their advanced weaponry and He decided that if he got out of this, he would not try to attack the surface. He knew that the gate that survived total destruction could be fixed and they could possibly go home. He watched the two humans disappear into the tunnel and wondered what would be next.

Michael told Daniel that he was turning off the dispance cloak for now and they should be ready to use any weapons they had. They both became visible just before reaching the taller alien species. Daniel wanted to look closer at this species and when he did he could see that they had scales that looked like armor of some type. He could see that the Kireals were designed as a warring species and that fact alone had given them the knowledge of producing the molecular disruption weapons they had. When they both got closer they could see that there were three of these beings that had been killed during the initial start of the battle. The old style military weapons had been used with precision or so it seemed and the three dead Kireals had been shot in the rather large head where the armored scales did not seem to be the same as the body scales. They counted the Kireals and noted that there were only about 9 left standing. They did not see any weapons just as they hadn’t seen any on the S’iruss or Grouth. Daniel made note that the Kireals were around 3 and ½ meters tall where as the S’iruss were only around a meter as well as the Grouth. Both men moved to the tunnel where one of the nine was just coming from when he was frozen. They passed the being and went into the tunnel.

Sssss’Ra-Ki had been fortunate during the initial attack. He was the first to shoot the little worm on the ground. He never liked the creature and K’Sssha-Ki had told him to make sure the traitor did not make it out of the skirmish alive. Ssssss’Na-Ki and SSSS’Ja-Ke had been next to him and burned the other 3 Grouth and one of the S’iruss but both had been killed by the old Surface dweller weapons and then the world stopped. He could see what was in front of him but he could not move any part of his body. He watched a small surface dweller approach the Grouth and S’iruss then do something to make all their weapons disappear. The small surface dweller then came toward him. As he watched in trepidation the human walked up and touched his weapon. It disappeared and then the human was out of sight and he could not turn around. He stood like a rock and heard the noise in the tunnel and a little while later, SSSss’Ma-Ki and the little human walked past him and continued toward the ridge. He watched them turn and skirt along the ridge as if they were going to the Supreme Leaders Quarters. He was trying to scream and move but his body would not obey.

His mind was screaming but he could do nothing and then he watched two surface dwellers appear not more than a few yards in front of him. He had thought that the surface dwellers could only access the caverns and caves from one place and now to see them as if they came from down below was a total shock to him. He wondered what had happened to the other two that would be killed at the entrance to the surface. He watched the two surface dwellers walk up to him and then disappear from his forward sight. He could hear them speaking and walking away. His thoughts ran wild within him and he swore that he would go to the surface and kill all the surface dwellers that were in the dwellings just above them.

Walking along the edge of the large upper main cavern, the two human females and the one Alien female seemed to be moving in a vacuum of sound. All three were conversing with telepathy and it would have appeared to anyone that might have seen them that they were floating above the rough surface of the cavern floor. Theresa was asking Sironna how it had come about that most of the colony had lost the ability to communicate telepathically. Did not Issona tell you? Issona told us how the time of being enslaved here was the cause of most of you to loose your abilities but I know there are at least three of you that still retain them and Issona was the master. How is it he did not continue to teach and help the others? Issona was old when we first arrived here from our own star system and he sought to teach and train others to keep the ways of our species. ISonda was the last in line to learn from Issona but by the time he was ready to be taught he had already begun to assimilate the ways of the Kireal and the Grouth. Issona did what he could to persuade ISonda away from the war like ways but it seemed the harder he tried, ISonda fought against him. The main body of the colony was used in ways by the Kireals that dulled their senses and that was one of the ways the peoples began to forget how to communicate in the mind. The Grouth or the diggers as we call them were given secondary control over us by the Kireals and our colonists began disappearing into the depths. Some would come back over time but they would not stay before they disappeared. We were not sure what was happening to them in the depths and the ones that did come back could not communicate with us in the mind anymore. We followed some to see where they went and discovered that some went back into the depths never to be seen or heard of again and some would go to the blue water cavern and jump into the waters only to be eaten by the beings that live there.

Theresa and Susanna both shivered at that thought and both thought about the depths of the Grouth and that gave them nightmares in their minds also. Sironna came to an abrupt stop and spoke in a whisper in the mind. We are close to the entrance of the green mist tunnel and there are two guards still here. I was hoping that they would have been called to the skirmish area but it seems the supreme leader values this place more than most of his peoples. This is where I must leave you. Beware these Kireals have mind techniques also and can sense when someone is very close to them. They can use a powerful mind control if given enough time that will render you submissive to them. They did this to the Human soldiers during the wars and would experiment on them and then eat them after they gained as much knowledge from them that they could. Theresa started to speak back to Sironna but the little alien was already moving back the way they came and as Theresa turned to look at her all she could see was Sironna’s back disappearing into the darkness of the path they had just traversed. She turned back to look where the two guards were and asked Susanna how they were going to handle this. We can use the dispance cloaks until we are close and then use the TMG’s to make them disappear. Sounds easy enough don’t you think? She had not seen where Susanna was standing and noticed that the guards were only around10 meters from their position. She almost screamed as she saw Susanna walking straight at the guards. She had not activated her dispance cloak or anything and now heard the words of Sironna.

K’kksss-ki and S’sksk-Ri had not been relieved for quite some Klicks now and both were very hungry. The supreme leader had told them earlier that they would have to stand watch for a few extra Klicks this Klitche because there was to be a demonstration to quell the insurrectionists. He told them that he would send replacements as soon as that was over. They both had been able to catch some of the indigenous rodents that inhabited the cavern for snacks but it was far from a good large meal. They both remember eating the humans and they had fond memories of that so when the human female began to walk toward them it was like manna from the Supreme. They did not know where this human had come from but when she came close enough K’kksss-ki used his mind techniques and forced her to come to him. She definitely looked like a full dinner and He was thinking that The Supreme had captured her from the surface and sent her to them so they could eat. When he had first tapped into her mind it felt like nothing he had ever experienced. It was as it she did not have a mind that he could capture but then all of sudden she was under his control. There was a bluish glow around her whole being but he attributed that to being under his mind control.

Theresa heard in her mind that Susanna was in control and letting these two think they were in control of her mind. She had created an illusion in their minds and turned on her vest shield that glowed with a bluish aura. She told Theresa to do the same and come over with her dispance cloak on and they both would send these two snakes to a very warm place indeed or should it be a very cold place. Theresa rose into the air with her vest shield on and the dispance cloak on and moved quickly through the air. She could see Susanna hesitating about 3 meters from the two guards. One of them began to move toward her and stopped himself as if unsure what he was doing. Theresa moved to a position above the other guard who was looking around trying to understand where maybe his partner was or who might be invading his space. At the moment the guard who had moved toward Susanna reached out for her, Theresa turned her cloak off and was standing next to the other guard. He turned to see her just as she touched him and he found himself in a hellish furnace that burnt him into non existence. The one that had reached out for Susanna instantly regretted his move. The tasty looking human female released his illusion and he realized that he had been tricked. The human reached out and touched him and he also found himself in the hellish furnace that lasted a little longer than a split second before he was no more.

Both women stood at the steel/lead door and realized that neither of them used the TMG to send the aliens away. Something had opened a locked door in their minds and now they could do what the TMG had done and they both suspected more. Susanna said “Sironna said the green mist was behind these doors and it would burn us up. I think that is some mighty powerful radiation that had leaked from those bombs or devices the military stored down here all those years ago and it would not be good for us to make contact with it.” “I think you are right Susanna and I think these vests were made to protect us from that stuff but we should not let any of it out of there as best we can so how do we get in and do the deed without doing that?” Susanna thought for a moment and began to look on one side of the doors; she moved along the cavern wall for about 30 feet and found what looked like an oversized man door. It was around 4 meters in height and a little wider than a standard man door in a building. She saw a latch and tried it. It would not budge. Theresa walked over and looked at the door and stuck her hand through it. There was no lead in it but she suspected that would not mater. She looked at Susanna and said “come on, I think this is the place we can go in and safely enter the tunnel without letting any of the radiation out.” She stepped through the door and Susanna watched as she disappeared. Susanna stepped through the door also and they both were in a very dark area. Susanna took the TMG and used the Torch function and they both could see that the narrow tunnel seemed to run on a downward slope. The floor surface was concrete and the more they looked they could see the walls and ceiling were of some kind of concrete also. The corridor, as they knew it to be, ran about 20 feet and ended. Theresa walked the length and came to a door in the side wall. It was heavily shielded she could tell.

She waited for Susanna to catch up and said “it’s now or never, are you ready?” Susanna looked at her and said “make sure the vest is on and let’s get this done, we got some peoples to get home and we also got our husbands out there who might be in trouble. Both of them walked through the door into a heavily thick green mist. The Vest shields were alight with sparks of some sort and they could see the entire bubble they both were in. They walked downward until they came to a wider opening and then saw what was stored in this lead shielded cavern. There were hundreds of nuclear war heads that could be attached to all sorts of missiles. These things all sat in nice neat little rows and there were boxes stacked along the sides of the walls. Theresa walked over to the stacked boxes and began examining them. It took her a few minutes before she said “my God Susanna, this looks like the military is storing or was storing every chemical agent and disease known to man down here.” She backed away from the boxes and moved back to Susanna. “I know we can make this stuff go away without using the TMG’s but I don’t think I want to touch any of this stuff. This is a very good time to use the TMG’s on a wide spray mode don’t you think?” Susanna couldn’t agree more and set her gizmo to a wide disperse mode as did Theresa and they both began to move the blue beams around. It didn’t take long before all the deadly stuff was gone. The large cavern seemed huge and hollow. The Green mist still hung in the air quite thickly so the women reset the gizmos and sprayed them around until the air appeared to be normal. Theresa took her pack off and sat it on the floor. She opened it and took out another device

The little box had a clear gauge on the face and two wires dangling one on each side. Theresa plugged one lead into the box and one into the TMG tool. She twisted the rear dial and the gauge needle pinged forward and settled back to a position that was just about where it had rested while the devise was not connected to anything. “One of Carolyne’s specialties, she made sure all the teams had one.” She waved the TMG around and did a complete turn then stopped as she looked back up the tunnel. “It looks all clear down here but there is still something registering back up the tunnel.” She bent over and picked up her pack and slung it over her shoulder and they both began to move up the tunnel.

43 INTO THE DEPTHS

The tunnel seemed darker the further he walked into it. The floor had steadily sloped downward and in some places he almost fell over before he could catch his footing. He wound up sliding down a steeper bank until it leveled out somewhat so he could regain his balance. He could barely see from the luminescence of the wolf that seemed unfettered by the dark or the steepness of the slope. He had been walking for some hours, as it seemed, now and the wolf kept moving steadily down and straight in front of him. Sometimes it would move to far ahead and he could barely see but the wolf would stop and wait for him to catch up. He could hear water running in some places and smelled the damp and musky odor of wet and moldy earth. He stopped for a breather and the wolf disappeared into the dark. He took out the TMG and turned on the torch function. When he flashed it around, all he could see was rock and dirt. The ceiling of the tunnel was only about 8 to 10 feet from the floor at the most. There was water dripping in various places and the smell was almost sour now. He pushed off and walked toward the last place he saw the wolf.

He almost fell again as the ground seemed to disappear under his footing. He had to sit down and back and felt the damp earth. His torch flashed up at the ceiling first then down to the surface he thought was in front of him. The torch kept moving down and down until he saw a giant hole. He scooted backward until he felt safe and shinned the light into the hole or what he thought was a hole. He could see no floor with the light. It seemed to be swallowed in the darkness. A blast of warm air caught him by surprise and he had to cover his face. The heated air smelled like burnt charcoal that had just been dowsed with water. He shinned the light straight out in front of him and saw a path between two large boulders. He could not see beyond the boulders for the darkness was all encompassing. He searched on both sides of the tunnel but could see no way around the hole. His mind was catching up to his physical experience and he felt fortunate that he did not take that extra step. The Great Spirit only knew where he might have fallen to. He could see the hole was about 4 meters across to the other side and wondered how the species that were suppose to live down here managed to make it across. He knew his spirit guide would have walked right across the emptiness but he could not do that. It was then that he thought about the Jet belt he had on and how he could fly across the hole. Something flashed in his mind then and it was something he had barely seen when he looked up at the ceiling. He flashed the light once more upward and steadied it. That is when he saw the rope. He followed the end and found where it was secure to a boulder on his side and followed it to the other side where it was attached to another boulder over there. This is how the Grouth cross this hole then. He turned and crawled up the slope to the boulder and was able to stand. He could not reach the rope from his standing position but found some carved out steps in the rock.

He found some hand holds but they were natural and had not been carved. He took two steps up the face of the rock and something came out of the dark from above and smashed against him. He fell to the ground and twisted himself to keep from rolling into the hole. As he turned, the thing that hit him from above hit him again with something that felt like the blade of a shovel. He had turned his vest shield on just before he began to climb the boulder and the shovel bounced off of it. He heard a high pitched scream and then a gravelly sound as what ever it was tried to penetrate his shield. He flashed the torch up quickly and the creature shrank back suddenly. It looked like it was blinded. He could see that it was not much taller than a meter or so and its head was stretched horizontally from side to side. The eyes were on each side of the head. The arms were short and at each end there appeared to be shovels for hands. He could see that there was an opposing thumb if one could call it that and as he watched the shovel blade split into three longer fingers. The body was thick and the legs looked like trunks that grew from that thick body with rather large flipper type feet. As he took all of this in he could see the creature trying to keep from falling into the hole. He instinctively reached out and grabbed one of the arms and pulled the creature toward him.

G’SPaaa-Des had been assigned to guard the rope crossing when G’digggg-Rs had taken the others to meet with the S’iruss and go and kill the Kireals. He wanted to go with the coterie members but G’digggg-Rs told him that he was needed to guard the rope. G’digggg-Rs was very disgusted with the main Coterie because they did not want to fight and be killed by the Kireals. When he tried to insist about going to the fight G’hammm-Rs knocked him down and threatened to throw him in the hole if he would not obey. He became calm and said he would do the Sledges bidding. G’digggg-Rs was considered the Sledge (king) of the entire coterie. The hole was thought to have no bottom to it and some thought that the lost clan could be in the bottomless void. He was lying on top of the big boulder when he heard the sound of someone or something walking the path. He watched as the alien being walked past the boulder and almost fell into the bottomless void. He recognized that this was one of the surface dwellers and wondered how this being had made it this far. Those that went to attack the Kireals had told about the surface dwellers coming into the upper caverns and warring with them once again. When the being discovered the rope bridge and then tried to climb up and grab it he made his choice and jumped on it. He would not let it pass to harm any of his fellow clan members.

G’SPaaa-Des was very surprised that the surface dweller was as fast as it was, He had thought as soon as he jumped on it, the thing would fall and even roll toward the hole and he was prepared to dislodge himself and watch the thing disappear. What actually happened threw him completely off. The surface dweller fell close to the base of the boulder and he fell toward the hole. He came back up quick enough and formed his fingers into the special spade mode and swung at the strange thing hoping to slice it badly. When he hit the shell of something hard and it shot sparks back at him, he was confused. Then the surface dweller turned on a very bright light that made him go temporarily blind. He let out a scream and spoke at the thing as he tried to find a vulnerable spot in whatever shield this being had to protect it. His footing was slipping from under him as he began to slip backward toward the hole. The fear gripped him heavily and then the surface dweller reached out and grabbed his arm and pulled him back. The total frightening experience of almost falling into the bottomless hole and the alien pulling him back from a certain death, made him totally confused. His spontaneous reaction was to swing his arm again at the being. This time the strange being stopped his swing and spoke at him.

Isaac grabbed the Grouth, as he surmised, and pulled it back from certain death. The little alien took another swing with his deadly spade looking hand but Isaac reached out and stopped the swing. He wasn’t sure about the language, although he had assimilated some speech when the alien had spoke at him just before it had swung at him the second time. He understood the being wanted him dead and now he was trying to speak back. He spoke the alien’s words in a broken sort of way. “I am……not….here…harm…you. I…. have come…… ….. help.” G’SPaaa-Des’ confusion grew by the minute. This surface dweller had just spoken to him in his own language and he understood some of it. He decided to speak back. “You can speak my language somewhat, and you say that you have come to help. How is it you will help me?” Isaac quickly grasped the alien words and syntax and waited for a moment to gather his own thoughts. “I am come to help you and your clans to go home to your own world.”

G’SPaaa-Des came up short, he thought he heard this surface dweller tell him that it had come to help his coterie get back to their the home world. He knew there were no working gates left and hadn’t been since the Kireal had come and destroyed them after the wars. He looked straight into the surface dwellers eyes, which he though they were too close together, and spoke “how do you propose to do that surface dweller. Our home world is in another galaxy and your species does not have any technology to get there. We have thought that it will take at least another 200 years before you come up with anything close to take us home. We came through the portals that we created but a small team of our learned took almost 300 years to arrive here with a gate that could be activated. It is unfortunate that they were attacked before they reached this world and by that time we had completed better gates and a few were able to skip to different systems until they were close enough to actually use a ship to reach this planet and plant a full working gate. This place just happened to be here and The S’iruss was the first to come and your military allowed us and many others to come and live in this underground base. The Kireals destroyed our only working gate on our level and we lost half of our coterie when they thought there was a working gate on the lower deep levels that we really never inhabited after we first came here.”

Isaac had fully grasped the speech of the Grouth being by now and understood why these aliens had never left. It was the Kireal species that kept them all here then. It appeared that they had dominated the two species left after the wars and kept them as slaves. Isaac started to ask if this fellow would take him to the main coterie so he could explain to them how he could help them get back to their own world when something bounced off his shield. The sparks flew violently backward and a shock wave rippled across the shield. The alien in front of him tried to move toward the boulder but was hit by another object, which Isaac realized was a medium sized rock. The alien went down and turn over. His eyes were glazed but he was still moving and hurriedly tried to crawl to some safety of the boulder. Isaac stood up and placed himself between the alien and the incoming missiles. The rocks seemed to come in groups and bounced off the shield in an array of sparks. The little alien managed to crawl behind the boulder and the next thing that happened was the rope falling loosely to his side of the hole. He assumed that it had been cut from the other side.

“G’SPaaa-Des, you will be executed for your treachery. You have allowed a surface dweller to penetrate our level. We will not allow you or it to cross the abyss.” The sudden baying of the wolf caused sudden silence from the far side and then a cacophony of screeching and screaming as a group of the Grouth began running back along the tunnel toward wherever they had come from. Isaac moved around the boulder base and found the alien, who he now knew as G’SPaaa-Des, lying face down. He turned the shield off and bent down next to the alien. He did not know the physiology of these aliens but he figured that any air breathing being should have a pulse of some sort. He started to touch the alien’s neck area when G’SPaaa-Des turned over and looked at him. “You have caused me disgrace to the clan and now they will kill me. I should have killed you first and I could still be welcome. G’digggg-Rs will surely kill me for not defending the level.” Isaac could see that the little alien was exhibiting signs of complete disgrace and if a human was lying there he would think the being wanted to die immediately.

Isaac sat down and watched G’SPaaa-Des for a few moments and then spoke. “Listen G’SPaaa-Des, if that is your name? I am called Isaac in human terms. You call us surface dwellers but we are of the human species as you are of the Grouth species. I ask you again, will you bring me to your clan?” G’SPaaa-Des finally sat up and said, “How do you expect me to do that human? I am now banned under penalty of death and will be stoned or impaled upon sight if I show up in the main hall.” If G’digggg-Rs returns and finds me not guarding the rope bridge, he will surely kill me. I have no place to go; it does not matter to me anymore. I am dead to the clan.” Isaac could feel for this alien who had lost his purpose or so it seemed. “I’ll tell you what –Des, if you don’t mind me calling you that, you can call me Isaac by the way. I have an idea on how to get your honor back and perhaps your life. If you take me to the main hall I will be your prisoner so the clan will see that you are very brave after all and you were able to battle and capture me. As for getting across the abyss as it is called, I have a way and we can take the rope and retie it in the process.”

G’SPaaa-Des’ eyes grew bigger, if that was possible. “You would do this for me, human, G”Saac?” It is very uncommon that a Grouth and a surface dweller could create a pact. We were killed by the hundred by the surface dwellers during the wars.” “That was along time ago and those humans did not understand. They always seemed to be in war and even today the few at the top still send the peoples to wars. It is coming to an end on this world and there will be a new world, a healed world and it will be up to all of us, That includes your species and ours to make it all work and keep it from becoming this very sick way ever again.” “The start has already begun but your species must return to your home world first as well as the Kireals and the S’iruss. This world shall rejuvenate and be cleansed first before a complete new start begins. You and I will not be here when this mother gives new birth. However we shall return afterward. That is all I may know at this time. So here is how we will do this and with that Isaac and –Des talked.

The main hall/cavern was abuzz with activity. The 33 Grouth that were left had all gathered when G’Piiiik-Rs and the three that had accompanied him to the abyss returned and told what they had found. G’Piiiik-Rs told about how they had caught G’SPaaa-Des consorting with a surface dweller and how they had tried to kill them both before cutting the rope bridge. The eerie sound of what they thought to be one of the Harggg-Rs a most fearsome creature of there home world, made them all run for safety. They did not know and had never encountered one on this planet in all the time they had been here. G’Piiiik-Rs told them all they must prepare for the creature and the surface dweller attacks. They had all dug up the bigger boulders and built a surround that they could defend well enough and settled into a wait. Some thought that G’Piiiik-Rs was having an hallucinatory delusion. It was the testimony of the other three that gave them thought to help build the small fortification. It was G’Hoeaxe-Rs that spotted the surface dweller being led by G’SPaaa-Des first and sounded the alarm.

G’Piiiik-Rs watched closely as the surface dweller walked slowly with G’SPaaa-Des walking behind him, toward the center. G’SPaaa-Des had a hold of a short piece of rope that was tied around the surface dweller’s neck and arms. G’Piiiik-Rs could plainly see that G’SPaaa had a good hold on the surface dweller and was bringing him to the clan. He began to loose his initial hatred and condemnation for G’SPaaa and rather gained some respect for him. He was still thinking that he should be killed for allowing the surface dweller access but he was admiring the derelict for capturing the surface dweller. This whole affair could be cleaned up now and especially before G’digggg-Rs returned from the skirmish to gain control over the Kireals. He knew that he could tell G’digggg-Rs about the incident and he would deal with the derelict swiftly. Whether it was death or complete dishonor he did not know.

G’SPaaa-Des walked close enough to G”Saac the human to be able to be within the shield if the clan decided to kill them both immediately. He could tell if that was going to happen and he would jerk the rope that had been rigged to fall apart so that the human could activate it. Isaac could read the jumbled minds of the Grouth as they both approached and could feel the fear emanating from them all. The wolf had howled in the tunnel and it reminded them of a creature on their home world that was a merciless monster that hunted and ate them. The creature was 4 times their size and near invincible. Isaac could not get a clear picture of the creature but he did get an image of a lot of teeth. It made him shiver in his own self and felt for these folk that had to deal with such a thing. As they approached to around 12 meters, one of the Grouth, who was standing on top of the boulder wall, that had been erected, called out to G’SPaaa-Des. “HALT,” he said and then asked what G’SPaaa was doing. “You have been banned and under penalty of death you dare show your face to the clan. Your treasonous act of allowing a surface dweller into our coterie further causes us to dissolve your existence from our clans. Do not come any closer to this fortress. There is a Harggg-Rs on the loose in the tunnels and you will be eaten, so take the surface dweller and leave this place.”

G’SPaaa-Des heard the words from G’Piiiik-Rs and knew the clansman was in total abject fear. He knew that there was no Harggg-Rs in the caves or on this planet or they would have all been eaten my now. He almost laughed at the ignorance of the clan member but thought better of it. He and the human had stopped and now it was his time to say something. “I have fought with this surface dweller and won the battle. I was trying to subdue him when you and the others attacked me. Then in your cowardly way you destroyed the rope bridge. I bring this surface dweller here because he has said he can help us get back to our home world. This is the only reason he is alive at the moment.” All the clan, female and male heard the words of G’SPaaa-Des and in there hope beyond hope for a way back to the home world began to talk among them selves. G’Piiiik-Rs could hear the infectious words and knew that they would light the forgotten fire of the clan. He had this thing happen before and had to quell the exuberance to maintain control of the clan. G’digggg-Rs and G’hammm-Rs beat and even killed a few of the clan to squash the will to go home.

“What makes you think this surface dweller can do anything to cause us to go home? We all know that all the gates have been destroyed long ago and that was the only way to go home.” Isaac spoke in the mind of G’SPaaa-Des and told him to tell the one on the boulder that he knew where there was an active gate and he could lead the clan there if they wished to go home. G’SPaaa did so and waited for the response. It seemed that the clan went very silent and G’Piiiik-Rs had disappeared from the top of the boulder. Inside the fortress, the clansmen had gathered in a circle with each other and as G’Piiiik-Rs jumped from the boulder they all turned on him and surrounded him. G’Axeeee-Es spoke at him and asked if it was true that there could be a working gate somewhere. G’Piiiik-Rs had known that there could be at least one gate somewhere but he did not know where. He had been told by G’shovelll-Ls that one had been saved and hidden away during the wars with the surface dwellers and then when the Kireals came and destroyed all the ones that they knew of, there were only two Grouth that knew the location and they had both been killed by G’hammm-Rs himself before they could tell. It was not long after that, that the split of the clans happened and the 50 members left and walked into the depths to search for the gate that was rumored to be hidden in the lowest reaches.

G’Piiiik-Rs and his three cohorts were outnumbered and their fear tactics would not work any longer. G’Axeeee-Es pushed them aside and moved to the opening that was guarded. He told the guards to move the rock and when they did he went out to meet with G’SPaaa-Des and the surface dweller he had captured. As he approached the two he could see that G’SPaaa no longer had the surface dweller tied up with a rope. Both of them had sat down on some rocks and seemed to be talking with each other. He stopped a few meters away and said “G’SPaaa, it is good to see that you are still alive. When G’Piiiik came back and told us that you had betrayed us and thought you might be dead from the surface dweller, we did not know what to think. He told us that there was Harggg-Rs loose in the tunnels, we did not believe him on that issue but the others said they had heard the creature call out. He said that they would have fought with you but the creature chased them off.” ‘We welcome you back but are not sure why you have brought this surface dweller to our coterie?”

Isaac had watched the alien approach from the rock fortress and speak to G’SPaaa. The conversation was short but he understood it completely. G’SPaaa had waited for the other to finish his speaking and then identified him. “G’Axeeee, it is good to see you also. We must have a talk with G’Piiiik as I think he is not telling the truth of what happened. As for this human, he saved me from certain death and helped me get across the abyss after G’Piiiik cut the rope.’ “You know as well as I that there is no Harggg-Rs in these tunnels.” “I would like you to meet G’Saac. He is one of the surface dwellers that have come to help us all to get back to our home world. He is a human and that is what the species of the surface dwellers are called. He has told me that he knows there is a working gate somewhere down here and he and I will find it.” G’Axeeee looked at Isaac and then spoke “is this true G’Saac and how is it that you would know such a thing if you have never been here before?” Isaac understood the doubt and even the leeriness from G’Axeeee. It had been the same with G’SPaaa at first but saving him from certain death had opened a door to a friendship of a sort. He spoke back in the Grouth tongue that surprised G’Axeeee. “What G’SPaaa has said is truth. I am come to help your clan, your entire Coterie to vacate this prison and go home. It has been many times since you first came here and your clans have dwindled in size over these times. I am told that there is a clan that was lost in their search for a gate in the lower reaches of this level. As for my knowledge of a working gate, I have been told this by some of my own clan on the surface. They have seen the gate and have given me the sight. I was sent by them to free you from this place.”

G’Axeeee was impressed with this surface dwellers knowledge and his ability to speak and understand the Grouth language. “Come G’SPaaa and G’Saac, we will go to the clans and see how they react to this knowledge. G’Piiiik must be confronted with your side of his worthless story in front of the clans. We know not when G’digggg-Rs, G’hammm-Rs and G’shovelll-Ls and the others will return or even if they will.” All three of them walked toward the hastily constructed boulder fortress, Isaac could see some of the clansmen standing on top of the boulders and they appeared to be holding some sort of spear shaped weapons. His own spear was resting in its sheath on his back. He kept his hand ready to activate the vest shield if and when it was needed. He was wondering where his spirit guide had wandered off to when he spotted the wolf standing close to another tunnel on the far side of the main cavern. Something told him that this would be his next journey and it could lead to that operational gate. They reached the small opening between to large boulders and G’Axeeee told them to let them in. A smaller boulder was rolled aside and the three entered into the fortress.

44 THE END OF THE OVERLORDS

Ian had walked the Kireal that called himself SSSss’Ma-Ki from the surface entrance through the tunnel and out into the cavern where the skirmish had started. The Kireal appeared to be cooperating with him and said he was taking him to the damaged gate. When they walked by the frozen Kireals, SSSss’Ma-Ki stopped and looked at his nesters. He casually asked what had happened and how these nesters were not moving but yet seemed to be breathing. Ian told him that they were in the same place as the one they had left at the surface opening. SSSss’Ma-Ki stood in front of Sssss’Ra-Ki and looked into his eyes that seemed to be able to move. He did not know if the snake could hear him or not but said. “I am going to kill you for your treachery Ra-Ki, after I kill the Supreme Leader. In fact I think I will bring K’Sssha-Ki here so you can watch him die and then you will die a slow and painful death. You know that K’Sssha-Ki has locked himself into his quarters where no one can touch him while you and these others were supposed to kill us and the insurrectionist. He would come out on your command and take all the credit and continue to play the supreme leader. You are nothing to him Ra-Ki and he would kill you just as quickly as any of us to keep his power. I am going to fix the damaged gate and bring the true rulers here. Ma-Ki could see Ra-Ki’s eyes move and knew that he could do nothing. The little surface dweller pushed him and he almost jumped on him but knew he would not win the battle. This little human hybrid, as he thought of him, had very strange powers so he turned and continued to walk the path to the ridge.

Ian had to push the Kireal away from the ones that he had frozen and he had heard the alien tell the other one at the front what he planned to do to him and one called the supreme leader. He knew that he was going to shove this alien through the gate and keep it closed from this side until he could get all of the Kireals evicted from this planet. When they had passed the other groups of aliens and reached the base of the ridge the Kireal turned toward the right and followed a well worn path along the ridge. They reached the edge of the cavern and the Kireal moved to another tunnel entrance and hesitated for a few moments. Ian could almost see wheels turning in this aliens mind. He could tell the alien was thinking about leading him away from the Gate but yet this one wanted to fix the gate very badly. Ian knew there was a working gate other than the broken one and it was located inside a sealed cave where there was another alien still alive. He guessed that this alien was the one called the Supreme leader and kept that gate hidden and turned off for his own nefarious reasons.

Ma-Ki came to the tunnel that led to the small cavern where the broken gate was located. He stopped and contemplated whether to lead this surface dweller directly to the gate or take him into the tunnel where the Supreme Leaders sealed quarters were located. He knew there could be at least one soldier guarding the quarters. He did not know who that might be but it would be someone that would not hesitate to shoot any intruder without a special pass code. He did not know what that would be so his decision was made with the respect of wanting to live first and as soon as he was able to kill this surface dweller, he would then figure out how to kill that guard and gain access to the snakes place. He took the path into the tunnel to reach the broken Gate and slowed his pace a little to give him more time to think of how he was going to overcome this human hybrid.

Ian knew what the Kireal was thinking and planning. He had read his jumbled brain at the beginning of the tunnel. He knew that the Supreme Leader was in the tunnel that they did not take and could feel the presence of another Kireal that had not been in the main group. He followed the Ma-Ki fellow but kept enough distance that the alien could not turn and grab him without having to take steps. He had started to mark this trail with certain signs that would be recognized by any of the team members if they should come this way in search of him. He was sorry that he had to leave them when he did but it had to be done. They all had certain missions to perform and complete and they all were very important. His was to stop the bloodshed of the groups that were fighting for control. He was almost too late and as a result nine beings lost their corporeal existence. His main goal was to find a gate and move the Kireals off this world. Isaac was chosen to do the same with the Grouth species as Jimmy was to do with the S’iruss. The other team members were to remove the nuclear stuff and the other deadly chemicals and germs. If they accomplished that in time then they were to help in evicting the aliens.

The walk through the tunnel was slower than usual and Ian knew the alien was stalling but soon enough they came to an opening into a smaller cavern and Ian saw the man made structures along the walls. This was a fully functional lab system at one time. He understood that this was a place where the Kireal experimented with the humans. His understanding gave him pause that the humans would assist the aliens in performing such tasks. The alien walked into the well lit cavern and seemed to move off to the left. Ian was looking at the lab rooms and other types of machinery as he wearily kept his eyes on the alien. The alien walked toward what looked like a circle ring with a platform at its base. The ring appeared to have a diameter of around 12 feet or more and the platform was a good 6 feet wide with at least 3 steps leading from the floor to the platform itself. There was no sign of power to this ring and it looked as if it had sat in an ancient tomb for an eternity. The dust had covered most of the symbols or writing and some of it could not be seen. The alien moved to an area that was close to the steps and stopped. He turned to Ian and said “This gate has not worked for many Klotches now and the power was drained from it even then. The Supreme Leader and a few of his nesters hammered on the ring over here” and he walked close to the right hand side of the ring and showed where it looked as if it had been bashed with something heavy. The alien swiped the dust from the ring at that point and Ian could see the dented place and where the symbols had been broken off.

Michael and Daniel walked upward through the tunnel and came into the surface entrance room, as they thought it to be. They both were surprised and held the TMG’s at the ready. The one Kireal that was standing did not move but they could see his eyes moving. Michael lowered his TMG and walked toward the Kireal. “Ah, another causality of our teammate I suspect. What do you suppose happened hear?” Daniel did not know but he had walked over to the entrance, or so he suspected to the surface. He had seen some dark fluid on the floor and the closer he came to the entrance he could see the steady drip of this fluid from the sides of the tube. I would guess that some of these aliens may have tried to go to the surface. I think this is the place that leads to that little building. Isaac did tell us that Jimmy’s brother was staying there to help the people guard this hole. One of them may have been shot trying to get out and this fluid looks like it could have come from the creature.” Michael had made a complete walk around the one that was frozen and noticed that the alien had fluid all over him. “Well this one isn’t going anywhere until Ian releases it so we might as well go back and see if we can find out where he might have gotten to.” Daniel agreed and they both backtracked into the tunnel.

SSsss’Ya-Ki stood in a frozen state, he could breathe and hear and he could see what was directly in front of him. He ached to be set free so he could kill the traitors and the little surface dweller. He knew that going up to the surface was certain death at this time. So when he watched the two surface dwellers emerge from the tunnel, he was surprised and knew that they were going to kill him. How ironic he thought that he could not defend himself. He tried the mind control on the little surface dweller to no avail and now he tried it on the larger surface dwellers without any effect. He was spared and the two left him to stew in his misery. He could only hope that SSSss’Ma-Ki would be able to control the little surface dweller and bring him back to release his own body from this pure frozen state. He would eat the little one and then they would go after the other two. These ideas were all that he could do to keep from willing himself to expire.

Daniel was the first to spot the sign that apparently Ian had left. It was on the well worn path that led toward the tunnels on the far side of the cavern. He and Michael had taken the path along the ridge in hopes of finding some sign of where Ian had gone and when he saw the sign, they both knew they were on the right path. When they finally reached the cavern edge they had to search around for more sign. Michael finally found another just inside the tunnel that was quite dark as they both began to walk into it. Both men were using there torches and soon enough they came across the sign once again. They could hear something in the distance that sounded like a giant fan or turbine. The light at the end of the tunnel seemed to be fairly bright. As they approached, they could hear the alien talking and then they heard Ian’s voice talking in the alien language. They stopped at the edge of the cavern and looked into the area only to see the human made structures. Daniel spoke in a whisper and said “those look like manufactured laboratories. You don’t suppose this place was being used for experimentation. I really hope they weren’t creating any of those other things we have come across.” Michael put his finger to his lips and with his other hand gestured to their left.

Theresa and Susanna both walked steadily upward through the tunnel. Theresa kept the little machine on and it was definitely registering something up ahead. The closer they came to the main doors the higher the counter read. They came up against the big doors and stopped. Theresa began to move the counter around and on the right side of them she pressed toward the concrete lined side and the counter bounce off the chart and then back to zero and stopped. “Whatever this thing was reading seemed to be coming from the other side of this wall. The tunnel seems to be clear so I think we should go out and see if there is another entrance to something. Susanna agreed and they both stuck there hands through the doors first. There was some resistance at first but then they both stepped through into the large cavern. Susanna felt light headed and found a small rock to sit down on. Theresa hurried over to her and asked what had happened. Susanna said she was not sure but something made here feel very light headed.

Theresa told her to just sit for a few minutes, “I am going to check the wall surface for any other doors. She began to walk back the way they had come originally. She waved the TMG around like a wand and the dial on the little box stayed close to the zero. She did not understand how the meter was bouncing around when they were inside the tunnel but now it was doing nothing. She had walked a good 100 feet before the needle moved on the gauge and she stopped. It was fairly dark at this point so she turned the torch on and pointed at the cavern wall and the needle on the gauge jumped to 50% and fell back. It moved in a jittery position. She could see an outline of a door. It was so obscure she almost missed it. She started to call out for Susanna and turned back toward their last position. Susanna spoke and said “is that a door? And Theresa almost jumped straight up. “How long you been here?” She said in a rather wispy voice. “Oh I thought you knew, I started following you as soon as you left. Anything about this door that spells danger?” Theresa stuttered for a moment and said “Yes it would seem there might be radiation on the other side; I think we should turn these vests on before we attempt to open this thing.” Susanna had to ask, “Can’t we just step through like the other ones?” “No, I tried but whatever is lining the door won’t let me do that.”

“I don’t think this thing is locked, look here is some kind of latch.” Both women activated the vest shields and Theresa grabbed a hold of the latch and tried twisting it. At first it would not budge so she twisted the opposite direction and they both heard the clanking sound of a bolt being moved. The door popped open toward them and stopped. The air that rushed out was rancid and putrid at the same time. Both women almost gagged. Theresa pulled on the door but it was very heavy so Susanna had to help and they finally swung it outward. It was pitch black inside so Susanna flashed her torch into the room first. They could see the ceiling and the far wall and Susanna moved the light downward. She almost screamed and dropped the torch as the light lit up the greenish white bones of thousands of beings. There were many different varieties of species it was a foregone conclusion. The large pit edge was just inside the door and fell around 20 or 30 feet to the top of the bones that lay in a jumbled heap, mostly broken in pieces, some still in tact. Theresa and Susanna both reacted quickly and turned the TMG’s on with wide dispersal and the nightmare disappeared. The pit was a good 30 feet deeper after the bones all disappeared. Both women did not want to know what had happened to the poor souls that inhabited the corporeal bodies of those bones. Theresa asked Susanna to help her close the door and just before they pushed it closed, Theresa did something to the ceiling inside the hell hole and when the door closed they both heard the rumbling of the ceiling caving in.

Susanna turned and started to walk back toward where she had come from. “Come we must find Michael and Daniel. I am afraid if they run into any of those creatures we had to deal with it might be hard for them.” As she spoke she was hurrying along the path that was close to the cavern walls. Theresa had stood quiet for a moment while all sorts of nightmarish thoughts flooded her brain and then watched Susanna almost running away. She moved then and said “wait up” as she too began to run. This place just became so much scarier. She remembered Issona’s words about how the Kireals were very dangerous and how they would eat the humans and the other species. She and Susanna moved along the pathway so quickly they went by two open tunnels before they both stopped and looked around. They were standing in front of a dark tunnel and to their right they could see more tunnels along the cavern walls. They both began searching for any sign and saw the path that led back into the cavern. It seemed to wind around some boulders and move to the left of the ridge they both recognized from when they first came into the large cavern.

“Michael and Daniel could be out there, they were going to stop that skirmish. We all thought it would be on the far side of this ridge. Let’s go and see if they are waiting for us.” Theresa was pulled in two different directions at this moment. She could feel Daniels presence in front of the tunnel yet she definitely could feel that her husband and Michael had been out in the cavern. The urge to run down the path into the cavern was almost overwhelming and then she saw something at the edge of the tunnel entrance. She asked Susanna to come and look at it before they were going to head into the cavern. Susanna quickly came over and both of them bent down to see what this was. The four leaf clover that was drawn in the dirt of the floor brought both of them up. “That is the sign of the haven. Only our team knows this. Do you think they might have come this way?” Theresa stood up and looked into the tunnel and back out into the cavern. She decided to at least go on the path into the cavern to see if there was another sign. Susanna and her moved quickly along the path and soon came to a turn in the path and found another 4 leaf clover sign in the dirt. They both stopped and then looked toward the side of the cavern where the path led. They saw the frozen aliens in two groups closest to them and then the Kireals frozen in a group closer to the sides of the cavern. They slowly made their way to the first groups and examined them. After a few minutes of observing, Theresa finally said “I think we may have found where Ian came and look at those Kireal. They have received the same treatment. I think Michael and Daniel have already been here and we should go back to that tunnel because they went into it.” Susanna had looked close at the aliens and surmised they were still alive but could not move. “These being are still alive and are not going anywhere for now so let’s hurry. I want to find Michael and Daniel. They both turned and hurried back the way they had come.

Ian walked closer to the ring and could see that someone or something had bashed the surface with a heavy object. He looked at the symbols around the ring and could see that two of them had been removed where the dent was. He asked Ma-Ki where the symbols might be and if that was the reason the gate did not work. Ma-Ki was quiet for a moment and then said “The Supreme leader has taken the two symbols that control the entire gate and most likely has them locked up in his sealed quarters. He is a snake and does not want anyone going back to the home world or anyone coming from there. This was our last chance to get home after the wars and he broke it so we would have to live under his rule. If anyone from the home world could come here they would kill K’Sssha-Ki for his treachery. The true Supreme Leader of our world would not allow him to live and would bring the original invasion force here to take the world for our own.” Ian could hear the proud dominance in this Kireals voice and knew without a doubt that if this one was left alone he would institute the directive of the Kireal home world to dominate this world and most likely kill the human race or eradicate it from the face of the world. For that reason alone he would have to make sure that all of these Kireal that were left would be sent back to the home system and the gate destroyed so they could not invade.

He had been taken to the Kireal home system and it was dominated by the species. He saw how the wars had destroyed many planets in that system and how war and dominance was spreading into nearby systems. This would be something that the human race and other races such as the S’iruss were going to have to deal with in the future in the quest for peace and harmony in this galaxy and the nearby galaxies. All of this was running through his mind when the Kireal stopped and was looking toward the tunnel entrance into this cavern. Ian did not take his focus off the Kireal and heard the voice of Michael. “How you doing Ian, we have looked for you and found where you stopped that skirmish.” The Kireal looked at him as if he was going to turn around to see who it was. Ian could read this snakes mind very easily and knew that if he turned his back the alien would pounce on him and hold him in a hostage situation. He kept looking at the alien and said “hello Michael and Daniel. Yes I managed to stop it but not before some of them killed each other. I am now hoping this one can fix this gate so we can send them all back to their home system. Do you have the two ladies with you also?”

As Michael and Daniel continued to walk toward Ian, Michael could see that Ian was not turning to speak at them but rather paying very close attention to the Kireal alien who seemed on edge. The being looked like he was ready to jump on Ian any second. Continuing the walk Daniel spoke and said “No they are still in the cavern as far as we know, however they were to meet us when they finished finding the tunnel with the green mist.” Ma-Ki heard the human words about the green mist tunnel and knew that he was going to have to act soon. These humans would destroy the human weapons and they were part of K’Sssha-Ki’s plan to begin the destruction of this planet. He did not know how it was suppose to work but if these surface dwellers/humans destroyed them then the plan would not work without bringing the invasion force earlier than expected. He was like a rattle snake with its head in the air and its body coiled ready to strike as the two other humans approached. The little human did not seem to move to acknowledge the other two so he hissed quietly and tried to use his brain technique to distract the human. His break came within a few moments and the little human turned its head and body enough to see its companions. He sprung at that moment and was frozen in his movement. His teeth were exposed and his arms were half outstretched. He would have bit into the head of the little human and killed it almost immediately and then ran so fast at the other two before they knew what was happening. The scene was almost comical. The snake alien had both of his arms outstretched half way and one of his legs was raised as if to jump.

Michael and Daniel came up suddenly as Ian turned slightly and the alien pounced. The thing froze in its movement and Ian backed away. They could see the long teeth of the alien as they dripped a white liquid. Daniel had pointed his TMG at the creature but it was useless as Ian had frozen the thing in a split second. Michael and Daniel both ran up and grabbed Ian. “Seems you had this situation in good control, care to fill us in?” At that moment the two women came running from the tunnel entrance and barreled into their husbands. It took a few minutes for them to hug each other and then Susanna noticed the alien. She buried her face into Michael’s chest and cried. They all moved away and found a place to sit down.

Theresa and Susanna told them what they had found and how they made it all go away. When it came to the bones in the cave, their emotions got the better of them. It was a gruesome site and they all began to get a clearer picture of the Kireal species. As they spoke they all seemed to glance at the frozen creature that was still dripping a white fluid from its teeth. Ian spoke and said “these aliens appear to have a venom gland under their teeth that can secrete into a victim once bitten. I suspect that they killed many soldiers during those wars this way and they became food for these vile things.” “Yes that bone cave was a minimum halfway full and it had bones from many other species.” Ian then told them how he had heard about the treachery that was going to take place with the group of S’iruss and Grouth and that is when he hurried to try to stop it all. He had frozen all of them and found the ones in the surface entrance cave and did the same to one of them while bringing this one here to repair the gate. “This one calls himself SSSss’Ma-Ki and has told me that he is the engineer that can repair this gate. I have now found out that the one that calls himself the Supreme Leader was the one that removed the two components that make this gate fully functional. Apparently the Supreme leader did not want any others coming through and he did not want any going back either so he rather selfishly is in control on this world. I believe he is still alive and may have one other that is guarding him.”

Daniel gave this all some thought and asked, “So these two that are still alive and not frozen are down here still and we need to find them and get the components back that will make this gate work. One of our missions was to send these aliens back to their own world. I think that is what Isaac and Jimmy were to do also with those other species. Do you have any idea where we can find this Supreme Leader and his guard and how we are supposed to move them all into this gate once we get it to work?” Everyone was thinking along the same lines and as they all turned and looked at the one in the frozen position near the gate, Susanna shivered. “I do not wish to be bitten by one of these things and when Theresa and I dispatched the two at the green mist tunnel we had no idea that they could do this thing.”

Ian had read the jumbled mind of ‘Ma-Ki and knew what he was planning that is why he kept a close eye on the snake alien. He found that the Supreme leader who also was of the snake species within the overall race of Kireals had taken the key symbols that operated the gate so no one could hope to make it work. He knew that the Supreme Leader was located in the tunnel to the right of this tunnel and ‘Ma-Ki had mentioned a possible additional Kireal guard outside of the Supreme Leaders sealed quarters. He could not be sure if there was one or more of these alien. He did know that they were true reptilians. There were different types but the snake species were of the royal lines on the home worlds and usually commanded the military forces in the wars. ‘Ma-Ki was an engineer and had rebelled against the Supreme Leader because he refused to open the gate so the advanced force of Kireals could come and gain control of this world. It appeared that the Supreme Leader wanted to control all the aliens in these caverns without interference from his home world. Ian was not sure but this supreme Leader may have been exiled from the main world at one time and sent here to be the front line fodder in preparation for the main force. Ian explained all of this to the team and said “now that we have all been down here and can see these places in our minds I think we can transport the frozen ones to this gate as soon as we can make it work.’ “Once we move them to the gate we can activate it and push the aliens through. We must do so quickly and close the gate and destroy it before any of the forces from their home world have a chance to come through. Avoiding a fight is our goal.”

Theresa and Susanna both wanted to know what Ian had done to those in the cavern and this one that tried to kill him over by the gate. Ian was surprised at their questions because they had opened the doors in their own minds that would allow them to accomplish this simple task. He knew that both women had opened the door to be able to move through matter also. Michael and Daniel had these capabilities but needed just a minor coaxing to use them. “I moved all of those in the cavern into the between place of time and no time. Their corporeal mass does not work in that place however they can hear and see and functionally breathe. They just can’t move the bodies. Father Bill made the TMG along these lines and you all know that the Gizmo can transport material through time and space; it can also cause corporeal matter to be locked in the in-between place. You all should be able to do this now without the use of the Gizmo.” He looked at Theresa and Susanna and said, “You both can move through matter and I am sure that you can all become invisible without the dispance cloaks and you can also levitate without the jet belts, am I right?” “Oh and you said you dispatched two of the aliens at the tunnel of green mist. How did you do that?” “We thought them away to another place that we have used before with the TMG’s. We just touched them and they were gone.” Ian smiled and looked at Michael and Daniel. They both knew they could levitate without the jet belts and as for the invisible part that had not caught up to them yet. Both of them had made things go away by a mere touch so that was clear in their minds. Walking through matter they were not sure of yet. Ian gathered them all in a tight circle and their minds became one. The one mind opened all the doors and the memories became the electrical frequency and encircled the body. All was known and then they were sitting and smiling at each other.

Daniel had stood and moved toward the manufactured lab rooms. He opened a door and went into the first one and began to make things go away. The labs had been built by the humans back in the 20th Century and the aliens had used them to experiment on humans that were given to them by the Military. Michael came over and joined him and they both made all the gear and other things disappear. Michael made a chair disappear from one of the rooms and reappear next to the Gate. It wasn’t long after all this that the team gathered at the tunnel entrance. It was decided that Ian would take Michael and Susanna with him into the tunnel where the Supreme Leader was supposedly located and they would find and retrieve the components for the gate and bring any Kireals they found to the Lab cavern as they called it now. Theresa and Daniel were to go and transport the frozen Kireals in the big cavern to the Lab cavern and send the S’iruss and Grouth to the Locker area of the S’iruss to be sent back to their home worlds from that place. Daniel knew about the one in the surface entrance cave and he would also be moved to the Lab cavern. None of them knew how many of the Kireal were left but knowing that the two that guarded the green mist tunnel and the possibility of one or two guards in the tunnel where the Supreme leader was located gave them pause that there could be others so caution was given priority to their dealings and it was determined and agreed that they should activate the vest shields. Now that they knew these aliens could kill with just a bite, it was a spooky venture to be pounced upon by one in the dark.

K’Sssha-Ki had given the orders for two of his nesters, who were both of the snake clan, to guard the tunnel outside his quarters until Sssss’Ra-Ki came and told them that the insurrection had been successfully subdued. Whereas he would then take the Rhumba below to the S’iruss and then to the Grouth below them and totally enslave them all. He meant to reduce their numbers to a manageable amount. He knew that there were still some in the Rhumba that needed to be eliminated or brought into compliance. Those that wanted to open the gates and allow the invasion to happen would be the biggest problem and would have to be dealt with swiftly. He had sealed himself in this time like he had done before when the wars were happening. He had plenty of food and had gathered some of the Grouth and S’iruss slaves for eating. In one part of the cave was a cell like structure where he kept these food sources and it suited him to know that these other species lived in complete fear of him. He did feed them as little as possible to keep them alive until it was time for him to feed. In another cave off to the side that had a sealed door to it was the only working Gate left. He had the two modules that would make the one work that was in the Lab area. It was so convenient for his species to be given all the proper equipment to experiment on the humans that were given to them by the military humans before the wars.

He would open the gate at times so he could see what was transpiring on the home world and system. The gate that was located in tandem with this one looked at the major Vid system that showed what was happening in real time on his home world. He could keep it open for very short periods because there were always some guards on the other side that kept watch. Sometimes he would have to shut down immediately because a guard would try to jump through. He understood what happened to that nester when it jumped into the portal and this side was shut down. A pile of burnt melting mass of matter was all that remained on that side as it was thrown back. For that reason, he knew they would eat him themselves for his complete treachery and he would be kept alive while they ate him piece by piece.

The last time he had ventured to look, he was surprised that there were no guards close to the gate. He could see the giant Vids and they carried the latest war that was ongoing in the system. He could see that his race was not doing well with this war and began to get the picture that his home world was burning and the race that called them selves the Mongooshians had invaded from a distant system and were winning their invasion. He had not opened the gate since that few Klatches earlier and now had thought that his Idea of staying here and making his own empire was the perfect solution. None of his Nesters or the Rhumba knew what was happening on the home world so it was just as well that he never let them know. This Klitche he had thought about checking the progress of the home world but was waiting for Sssss’Ra-Ki to come and tell him that all was well and good.

In the tunnel outside the Supreme Leaders sealed quarters Ssssss’Pa-Ki and SSSss’Bal-Ki had wandered the tunnel making sure that none of the insurrectionists or the surface dwellers came close to the Leaders quarters. They both knew that no one could get in without some high powered explosives and not even their own molecular disrupters could penetrate the doors. They both wandered why the Supreme Leader had ordered them to guard this tunnel when it was clear he would be completely safe. They had wanted to help Sssss’Ra-Ki destroy the insurrectionists but even he had agreed that they needed to guard the tunnel. They had reluctantly obeyed the order and when the noise occurred in the big cavern they both had hurriedly moved to the tunnel entrance but could see nothing. Ssssss’Pa-Ki had almost left the tunnel to see what had happened but SSSss’Bal-Ki told him it would be treasonous and besides Sssss’Ra-Ki and the others could be expected to handle the situation without any problems. The sound had subsided quickly and then the silence was maddening. They both went back to walking the tunnel with thoughts of what happened still weighing heavily on their minds. They expected Sssss’Ra-Ki to come soon. They both became very antsy when he did not show and as the Klicks passed by, they both became very leery thinking that the nesters ran into some problems. They both decided to hide themselves outside the sealed door and wait to see who would show up.

Theresa and Daniel hurried along the path that led to the area in the cavern where the aliens had been frozen. They were going to move the S’iruss and the Grouth to the tunnel of the locker room on the S’iruss level first and then move the Kireals to the lab cavern close to the gate. Ian, Michael and Susanna were going to find the key modules to make the gate work and capture any remaining Kireals to send back to their home world. Theresa was the first to reach the S’iruss and Grouth group. Daniel had taken time to scope the surrounding terrain for any interlopers that might be lurking around. He caught up to Theresa a few minutes later as she was moving around the aliens. “There are 6 of the Grouth left and 7 of the S’iruss. I can see where there might have been 4 more of the Grouth” and she showed Daniel the slag heaps on the ground. “And look here, it appears that one of the S’iruss was burned in the fight also.” Daniel could see the slag burn next to the one still standing. “Let’s move them and then go do the same with those over there.” They both opened the portals in their minds as they touched the beings and sent them to the locker room area on the S’iruss level.

Sssss’Ra-Ki watched the two surface dwellers make all the insurrectionists disappear by merely touching them. He recognized one of them as before. These aliens had a powerful weapon, he was sure now that the planned invasion would be met with such a weapon and his species would be defeated. He thought that K’Sssha-Ki may have known this and that is why he would not let the gate be repaired. His thoughts on that were confused. He had always thought that K’Sssha-Ki was a power mad controller and he was a pure coward as well. The snake lived in fear of everything and covered it by getting others to use violence on those that threatened his control. He had always known that he would succeed the Supreme leader and lead his nesters back to their own world where he could then be rewarded and fight in the forever wars that the Kireals were destined to be born into. As the two surface dwellers walked toward him he was waiting for a moment to be free from this cage he was in. A cage yes, but there were no bars or walls, It seemed to be only his mind that kept him from moving and it was all powerful. He had experimented with his own mind techniques to no avail. If he could be freed he would kill these surface dwellers and eat them and perhaps that would give him their power, their weapon. If he had their weapon he could let the others go and they all could then feast on the S’iruss and the Grouth below.
