In days of yore, long long before
A man could stand without strength,
He'd shine his sword, clean scabbard,
And during those times he would think.
Reflecting not on unknown terrors,
As Lesser men of today excel --
The servant of the sword he held,
He knew it true and used it well.
To run and hide from danger,
The coward's stinking lot,
Is a concept far removed from him,
Although the Future, he knows not.
Chance will favor the prepared heart,
And Gods grace trip the blackguard's hands!
The mystery of the warrior's strength
Is the code of honor he demands.
Alone he stands, held up by faith
And not a pack of slinking wraiths
He dispatches first a cheerful word,
And it if fails, he has his sword.

The Prepared Heart
Brotherhood falls asunder at the touch of fire!
He finds his fellow guilty of a skin
Not coloured like his own, and having power
To enforce the wrong, for such a worthy cause
Dooms and devotes him as his lawful prey.
~William Cowper
