Two men or young boys as they were, waited for all the others to stand with Allan and the President and slowly stood off by themselves. Allen looked at them and knew they were medics or at least trained in battle field medicine and wondered what they were going to do. He also knew that they did not want to go back to the Emperor’s Army. Allen turned to the President first and then back to the boys and asked “what would you two like to do then?” Private Johnny Cruise and Private Steven Walker both looked embarrassed but Johnny spoke up. “Well sir, we would be honored as you say, and he looked at the President, to be Texas Citizens and we sure will fight along side any of the people of this country but we feel we owe the people of this town for invading and causing injury to anyone that lives here. We are both trained in medicine and figured we could best serve the Nation of Texas by staying here and serving these folks at the hospital that they so generously took our wounded to. We know the men and we could help with their recovery and we could help rebuild this town in the process.” It was Kirsten’s turn to speak. She came forward and stopped in front of them. To her they looked like high school kids. “What are your names if I may ask?” Johnny was first to tell her and then Steven spoke. “My name is Steven Walker and my brother is out their somewhere. We are the same age and I don’t know where he is. He was some of the first ones that came through the doors when they were opened. I would like to find him and help him if he is hurt.”

Kirsten could see the concern and compassion in these young men’s eyes. It made her sad that this business had to happen. “May I ask how old you two are?” Steven said he was 17 and his brother had just turned 18. Johnny said he was 18. Kirsten turned and looked at Sam and then back at the boys and said “I am glad that you two want to stay here and help and I welcome you both into our little town. Sam is going to swear you all into the Nation of Texas and you two can go down to the hospital and hopefully you will find your brother Steven. Sam gathered his men and they declared the group of men into Texas. He gave the rank of Sergeant Major to Allen and told the others that they would be given weapons and uniforms once they reached Dallas. The Ten men that would be joining the militia were given a choice of towns to go to from here and they were given a map up front by Sheriff Roberts. Carla took Steven and Johnny to the Hospital. Sam had been told about the Hummers and two troop carriers that had been brought in from the other side and He told Allen and his men to use them to get to Dallas. Provisions were made to make sure the men would not be mistaken for Emperor Soldiers. 4 of the men that wanted to just be citizens and part of the militia decided to stay in Farwell while the others made their choice to go to other towns where they could help against any more attacks from the Emperor’s army. Sam spent some time with Kirsten and Kirk and met with Milo and Tom and slapped Walt on the arm. It turned out that he and Walt knew each other from the past. Kevin and Kristyl enjoyed the time with the folks and then Sam said he had to get back to Houston. He had come with Kevin and Kristyl and they took him and his two men back.

Carla brought Steven and Johnny into the hospital and introduced them to folks as they made their way to the beds where the wounded were being treated. Steven and Johnny began to make their way around and becoming familiar with the wounded. Steven stood beside the bed of a woman that had been shot through her side and noticed a set of dog tags lying on the table tray next to the bed. He looked closer at the tags and picked them up then stopped. His eyes began to tear up and his arm was touched by the woman suddenly. He heard her say something but it did not register at first. He finally turned to her and looked into her eyes. He could see her shock at looking into his eyes. He heard the sharp intake of air from her. He did not know what she was doing at first and then asked if she was in pain. Martha was resting comfortably when the young man seemed to materialize beside her bed. She watched him pick up the dog tags and could see his eyes watering. She reached out and touched his arm. The boy seemed to be startled and looked at her. She drew a sharp breath as she looked into the boy’s eyes that had saved her on the road at the wall. The boy asked her if she was in pain. God she thought, his voice is the same. “Are you David Walker?” She asked. Steven dropped the dog tags back on the table and said “how do you know my brother? Is he alright?”

Martha eyes filled with water again. She was trying to figure out how to tell this boy that his brother was dead. He didn’t look any older than the boy that saved her. He could be a twin. She thought David was alive after all and everything was a dream. All of this passed before her eyes and then she blurted out, “your brother is dead.” Steven was frozen and then sat on the edge of the bed and put his face into his hands. He was silently crying. In a quiet voice he asked “how did he die?” Martha could reach him and put her hand on his arm. The pain in her side was returning and she needed another pain reliever. “He was shot coming through that damn wall, what is your name?” Steven looked up at her and his training kicked in. “You are in pain, let me help” and he stood up and grabbed the pills that were sitting on a shelf. He poured her a glass of water and handed her a couple of pills with the water. “My name is Steven, Steven Walker, David and I was forced into this war. We are both medics and were sent here to invade your country. Did you see him and talk to him before he died?” “Yes Steven I did talk to him. He saved my life on that road today. He was shot before he did that and managed to drag me off the road and stop the bleeding before he left. I am so sorry that all of this had to happen.” “What is your name?” “I am called Martha, least ways that is what Sheriff Roberts and Henry calls me.” “Well Martha I am glad that David saved your life, he was always one to help whoever he could, I don’t think he could ever shoot anyone and he may not have had a weapon today. I and another medic have become Texas citizens today by your President and most of the others that survived had been made citizens also. Johnny and I are going to stay in this town and help do what we can to heal the wounds that were caused.” Martha was becoming numb again and her eyes were beginning to flutter. “Steven, thank you and your brother. I think we are going to be great friends and you can tell me all about the young boy that saved my life.” She closed her eyes and Steven got up and began to make his rounds and talk to the soldiers that had survived a bloody fiasco that didn’t have to happen.

Master Sergeant Allen Haspert gathered his men and they climbed in two of the Hummers and one of the troop carriers’s and took the road to Lubbock on their way to Dallas. They were to meet with a Lieutenant Jackson at Lubbock and from there would be escorted to Dallas. It was determined that the wounded soldiers in the hospital would be given their choice when they were well enough to make a coherent decision. One of the Humvee’s had been left for Sheriff Roberts and his people. All three of them had been refitted with the mini’ guns and one of the Troop carriers was also left for the town. Mayor Kirsten McGreggor asked the militia citizens to stay on for awhile until they could repair the town somewhat and provide adequate transportation to the new citizens of Texas. Kevin and Kristyl took President Sam Houston and his two men back to Houston and decided to stay and help with the militias that were building toward the east. The North was also being built up in preparation for the push from Oklahoma which they all knew was coming. It was the morning of the 7th of May when Kevin dropped the chopper onto the pad at the Capitol and they began to set up the eastern and northern borders. Kristyl was worried about the other teams that were down in Mentone. There had been no word from that area as of yet.

On the Texico side of the wall the vehicles that had been blasted were cleaned off the road and left as reminders on the side of an insane Emperor. The military post was left to burn and no one bothered to put the fires out. The people of Texico banded together with the people of Farwell and tore down the doors from the wall to leave a wide passage representing unity between Texico and Farwell once again.

65 THE FAILED EXPERIMENT

Colonel Maximillian (Max) Hyman walked out of the big super mart with a large cart full of foods and other needs. His two companions, Lieutenant Frank young and Master Sergeant Louie Nubket had already gathered there supplies and were loading it into the big 5 ton truck that was one of the older troop carriers. Max wheeled his cart up to the back of the truck and asked “did you get everything?” Frank pulled the 100 lb bag of flour from his cart and hefted it up to Louie. “Yes Sir. The trailer is full and we can pick it up on our way back. We need to get the fuel tank trailer also. I think if we make two more runs we may be totally stocked.” Max started handing his contents to Frank and Louie. “I was thinking the same thing. We have a good store down below that we will begin to move back to the main station soon. It is good that the base was abandoned a few years back when the emperor took most of the personnel and sent them to China. We will have to block the access when we are done up here. The Emperor has begun his invasion into Texas and told me to stand by with the nukes.’ “You both know that when he shoots them this world is going to go to hell real fast. I am pretty sure that China and Russia have missiles and I can tell you that they will not hesitate to use them once the madman fires one off. The Emperor has told me that he will be moving to the base under DIA and give the command from there for us to let one go. He is bound and determined to destroy Houston and he thinks he will get Texas back. Jesus, the man is insane. What the hell is he thinking” I guess he will find out just how lonely it’s going to be when the world blows itself to hell. I think we are going to have to blow that damn tunnel where the Tram is resting. I don’t want that bastard coming up the tunnel.”

Frank handed a case of ammo to Louie that they had acquired at the local armory that was controlled by the small Military force that controlled a bank for the Emperor. They were the tax collectors for Kansas City. He looked at Max and shook his head. “We have the last two cars rigged with some high power explosives. When we set those off that tunnel is going to cave in and no one will get through unless they get a tunnel drill down there.” “Good that should give us at least 50 miles to the control bunker. Will there be any part of that Tram left?” “Well sir we expect at least half of it will be left and could be operative if we can get the main power back down there.” “Yeah well that ain’t going to happen until after the nuclear bombs stop falling and if there is any type of power left. You know this is why we have been storing the fuel. That big cavern where all the cans are is only half full. How much is on the trailer this time?” “We were able to fill both 100 gallon tanks and secure 15 more 5 gallon jerry cans.” “Good, be sure to add the amount to our records when we get back.”

Max moved to his Old gas powered Hummer and pulled out of the Super mart parking lot. Frank and Louie followed in the old Troop carrier. They drove down Kansas Avenue that turned into the Turner Diagonal Freeway until they connected to the Riverview Avenue. Once they got on that road they would drive west and make connection to N86th Street and cross the I-70 to get to Splitlog Ave. That particular road led them to an old farm house that had a rather large forest to the west. The entrance to the underground base was located about 500 yards to the west of the house and hidden very well in the trees. Max had a remote key system to open the big door in the side of a small rise. Once they were in the door would close and look like the side of the rise once again? No one lived in the farm house but it was kept up to appear that someone did live there. Max knew the caretaker and he lived in the closest house to the east. He had been paid very well to take care of the house. Inside the mound there was an elevator that could hold at least 4 trucks. The generator for all of this was encased within the mound and took its power source from the outside power lines that ran east and west. Max knew these would be shut down eventually and this place would cease to work for vehicles. The elevator dropped 200 feet straight down into the big carved out cavern where the base was located. The place was eerie without the personnel in it. All three of them had sworn that there was something else living down here and had been spooked more than once. They would not come here alone since the time they had been chased by something after the third time they had ventured from the control station to gather supplies. They never knew what it was but it had a ferocious screech to it and that echoed through out the base. The big steel doors that cut the tunnel off from the base were their only safety from whatever it was that lived in the base and their station that was located at least 100 miles to the west.

They had been in the Kansas City area for the last three days and today they were heading back to the Control station which they considered their home. The elevator dropped to the floor of the base and Max drove off the pad and moved straight for the tunnel doors. Frank and Louie drove the big truck off and moved to the trailers that were sitting close to the tunnel doors. Max had begun to back up to hitch one of the trailers to the Hummer. All three of them had their long guns at the ready. Max did not want to get out until Frank and Louie pulled up and backed the truck to the trailer. They would be pulling the fuel tank trailer. The drive to the control station would take them at least 3 hours. The road that ran next to the rail system had actually been paved and they could make good time. The Tram, when it ran would come into the big cavern and run in a circle and connect back to the main track for the return run to DIA. Frank and Louie both climbed out together. Frank would hitch the trailer while Louie kept watch. Max climbed out and hitched his trailer. They all climbed back into the vehicles and just before they started them they heard the screeching sound. Max used the remote and keyed in the numbers to open the tunnel doors as he was pulling out. Louie was looking to the side and through the mirror at the rear; the lighting in the big Tram cavern was a low level system that only shed enough light to see the immediate surroundings. The big doors had opened enough to let them through and Max was just disappearing through them while Frank was right behind when Louie saw a large shadow that looked like a bipedal being coming toward them from the rear. Louie yelled at Frank to get through, “HURRY WE GOT TO SHUT THE DOORS THAT THING IS COMING ACROSS THE ROTUNDA” Frank’s neck hairs raised and he used the radio to tell Max to close the doors. The doors were closing as Frank drove the truck through and they closed tight just as the trailer behind the truck passed through. Frank stopped and both men jumped out and turned their rifle mounted torches on the doors. They heard the bang against the doors but nothing moved. The banging continued for about 5 to 7 hits and then all went quiet. Both men looked at each other and climbed back into the truck and flashed their lights at Max up front and the caravan began to move toward the west.

The Creature/beast had been searching for his daily meal at the deeper area of the underground complex when it heard the sounds that it had heard before. They was coming from the big cavern. It had heard these sounds in the recent past and had arrived in the cavern only to find nothing. It followed the noise of something and moved to a large hole in the ceiling of the cavern. It could hear the sound of grinding but the hole was dark and it could not see anything. The sound stopped and after awhile it moved back toward the deeper area in search of its food. Hearing the sound again it moved toward the big cavern and watched the bipeds moving around and then the things got into some containers of a type and started to move. It smelled the food that was in the containers and started to rush toward them. A big hole opened in the wall and the containers disappeared into it. He almost reached them when the hole closed and he ran into the wall. It hurt but he tried to bash his way through it until he bled from his giant hands and his huge arms. He finally gave up and went back to his place where he rested. The food had begun to get scarcer and today he had thought he would find a good source of food. He slunk back into the deeper area and found his energy pad where he stepped into a harness and became still as the harness buzzed and silently fed an electrical circuit into his body.

The creature was the result of the first experiments performed by Hans Peterson and Gregor Mendal to create a biological android. They were experimenting with genetic material and how to improve the human body to be virtually indestructible. They had retrieved a homeless derelict from the streets of Kansas City. The man was quite oversized for a normal human and they wondered how the man had gotten so big. The man stood almost 7 foot in height and his body was proportionate to the height. The first thing they did was inject the man with the biological genetic material to see what kind of reaction it would have. Unfortunately the man died or so they thought. They both left for the DIA base to get the new lab systems set up and came back a few weeks later to see about gaining another human for continued experimentation. However, when they returned the commander told them that their first experiment had awakened three days after they left and began to morph. When they entered the lab they found the man had been placed into a cage and the soldiers were giving him dead rats and other creatures they could capture on the surface to eat. The man/creature had grown almost 2 feet in height and appeared to still be growing in height. The body had become bloated in the upper area and its legs and arms were growing in size and length. The head had distorted in a way that gave it an appearance of a gorilla and the teeth had also become longer and sharper. The hair had grown long from the head and the body appeared to be growing hair. It seemed that the Biological genetic concoctions they had introduced were taking over in an ever expanding way.

Peterson and Mendal knew they had the workings of making super soldiers that could be almost invincible in the combat zone; however they had to perfect the brain and the skin and the motor skill. They had the creature, as they called it at first, sedated and began to experiment further. Peterson had created the AI module that could be implanted in the brain to enhance the senses and be controlled for warfare. Mendal experimented with re-growth of the body parts and something to make the outer layer of skin almost steel like in nature. Both men decided to introduce bionic parts when Mendel’s re-growth didn’t work as expected however it did cause the skin to heal over from bullet holes or knife wounds in an unfathomable time period. They spent almost a year with the creature and finally added an electrical battery pack next to the things heart and designed a chamber where the creature could recharge the AI modules and the smaller highly sophisticated motors that operated the bionics. They were both called back to the DIA labs and were gone for a good month before returning. Upon their return they discovered their experiment had escaped and in so doing had killed 10 of the soldiers. It had disappeared into the deeper recesses of the base where there were caves and tunnels that had not been explored or remodeled to fit with the base. Not long after that the Emperor had ordered all the men from the base to ship out to the major conflict in China. Mendal and Peterson were called to other bases to experiment on humans and the KC base was abandoned and at the same time the tram was stopped. The creature had found small animals and rodents to eat and had even found a tunnel that lead upward and out to a large patch of trees. It terrorized the inhabitants that lived in the suburbs sometimes but always went back to its re-charging chamber. The creature had become almost 12 feet tall before its height stopped. Its body was massive and fortunately Peterson and Mendal had made the chamber extra large to accommodate the proposed growth of their experiment.

The Creature had deeper memories of when he was living in the sunshine where there were lots of other beings that moved around in containers and walked around him. He lived in the open and slept in places where others slept. He did not know where this place was that he dreamed about while he slept in the chamber that fed hot current through his body. He would explore the deeper recesses of the caves and go to the surface place and that is when he would have the memories more vivid because the warmth of the light brought back the thoughts of a different time. He would find the food he needed and go back to the dark places and find his sleeping chamber where he would receive energy.

After the encounter with the other beings and their containers that moved like the ones in his memory, he found another tunnel area that he had not explored and found his way into a big tunnel that had some kind of lights along the sides of the tunnel. As he left the little tunnel to enter the bigger tunnel he discovered a smooth surface and to the side of it was another surface that had very hard narrow pieces of bars that were similar to the bars he had bent to escape from. As he felt these bars his memory flooded with a sound of rushing water and the thoughts came of a large moving container that made a loud noise and moved on these bars. This was a new tunnel for him to explore but he had to go back and sleep in his cage. After his energy had been recharged he went back to the big tunnel and looked for food. He began to find the small creatures that scurried along in front of him. As he moved deeper in the tunnel he caught the furry creatures and then he began to run out of energy. He turned to go back and fell next to the tunnel wall that had one of the lights shinning low to the floor of the tunnel. He could see the energy running through the light behind the cover. He weakly broke the cover and tore the bulb from its socket. He stuck one of his big fingers into the socket and felt the electrical energy. The power was low but it gave him some energy. He tore the inside back cover from the box and found the wiring system. His next move was to grab the exposed wires and let the electrical current flow through his entire body. He lay their for the amount of time that he usually stayed in his chamber while his body recharged. When he stood up there was a strong urge for him to continue walking in the tunnel away from where he had lived for so long. He moved to the west and when his body began to lose energy he would lay next to one of the lights and do as he had done with the first one. He did not know where he was or where he was going but he was being drawn further into the tunnel.

66 THE HOMELESS AND THE FARMERS

Alice had taken the lead while Tamara and Alisha followed behind by a few yards. They were levitating and flying about 5 feet above the rails of the Tram. The girls discovered that there were low lighting fixtures built into the sides of the tunnel and they continued to be illuminated even though the underground city building had been destroyed. Alice wondered where the power was coming from and she was sure they might find out sooner or later. They knew that the workers had escaped into this tunnel earlier and they were looking for them to lend a hand. The tunnel was surely a few hundred miles long or more. They were looking for the weapon or what Greybark had said was under the airport and through a long hole. This definitely seemed like the place. The spooky android things that wound up killing all the scientists and the soldiers would not be exactly what Greybark talked about but they were close. Tamara and Alisha both had talked about what their parents had encountered and destroyed in other places and now the Emperor’s private little army was gone and he would not be able to access the under ground city. They discussed the complete caving in of this tunnel once they found the weapon and destroyed it. Flying through the tunnel was easy but it was going to be a long flight they thought.

Carl Unsford was driving the lead forklift while Ammon Rivera drove the other one. Once they were in the tunnel they had deflated the tires on the fork lifts and got them on the tracks. They also discovered the low illuminating lights along the walls. That allowed them to conserve some of the energy the forklifts would use if they had to keep the lights on. They were 20 miles into the tunnel when they heard the distant boom sounds. None of them knew what the sounds might be but Carl said that they had to keep moving. They stopped when they reached a 25 mile marker and resituated everything in the trailers for better comfort. The forklift could only go at top speed of 15 mph and Ammon knew this tunnel was hundreds of miles long. They could be down here for weeks. Carl knew that there were access ladders to the surface somewhere along the route but he did not know how far apart they might be and it they would take some kind of key to open a hatchway. Jaclyn McKnight told them that she had seen some men climbing into a concrete tube that was above ground when she drove from Kansas City to Denver. She thought it was odd because she had taken a dirt road from the main Highway to camp for the night and came across two trucks in the middle of nowhere. She was frightened and was turning around when she noticed the men climbing into the cement shell. “It stood about 5 feet above the ground and was covered with brush so it could not be seen very easily. I think those men were going to an underground bunker or something. I did not see them come back out before I drove back to the highway.” They all knew that this tunnel was several hundred feet below the surface and when they found one of the access ladders they would have to climb a great distance before they reached the surface. That could be very hard for some of them. They resituated the trailers and continued moving on the tracks. Their food and water had to be rationed very carefully because they could die down here if they ran out and could not find a way out.

As the girls floated along they began to hear the quiet sounds of motors in front of them. They knew that the motors were coming from the Forklifts that the people had taken to escape from the factories they slaved in. The girls meant to send these people back to their homes or where they had originally been before being forced to work in the underground city. They would be given a choice and could be taken or sent anywhere they wished to be. The motor sounds were intermingled with a sound like rushing water. Alisha knew that sound from a past time of her existence. She had been bumped from a corporeal body by a train and the rushing water sound let her know that the forklifts were on the rails. The girls continued to fly toward the sounds and they began to get louder. The low level lighting could be seen faintly but 50 feet in front of them the tracks were dark. The road beside the rails was also dark. The rushing water sound stopped suddenly and the girls stopped moving. Tamara spoke quietly and said “they appeared to have stopped.” We should hurry up and catch them, they could be in trouble.” Alice was concentrating on a distant sound that could be heard now that the people in front of them had stopped. It sounded like vehicles of another type. The sound was an echo and was so quiet it was apparent that it was very far off. All three of them began to move once more.

Carl Unsford’s forklift started to sputter so he quickly sent word back to tell Ammon to shut down. Carl shut the tractor down and it rolled to a stop on the rails. As the tractors shut down and the noise of the wheels on the rails subsided, the people became very still and quiet. The distant sound of vehicles could be heard somewhere far in front of them. The tunnel only took about 5 turns in its entirety and those were wide arcs due to the speed of the tram when it traveled from DIA to the KC base. The tram only took about 1 hour to go from one place to another when it ran but at the present it would take anyone traveling in a vehicle that could move around 100 MPH at least a good 5 to 6 hours to make the trip one way. Carl listened to the sound and knew it was coming from a military vehicle of some type and that it was far off. The people began to talk amongst themselves as to what they were going to do if the military showed up. They knew the tram was parked somewhere down here but not exactly where. Ammon was worried and talked with Carl about their situation at this point. “If that is the military and they are coming from the other end, we will be caught and they could shoot us. How far off do you think they are from us?” “I don’t know Ammon, that sound could hundreds of miles away, you know how this tunnel can echo sound. We have two options from here. One is to find a ladder to the surface and get out before those vehicles reach us or we can hope to find that tram and scoot these tractors to the rear of it and hide inside and hope those people drive by and never notice the tractors. Either way we got to become obscure. I don’t know who that is but it’s a sure bet that they ain’t going to be friendly to us.”

Ammon listened to the people whispering loudly about being caught and killed and turned back to Carl. “What’s wrong with your tractor?” “I don’t know yet, it just started to sputter on me so we got to see what it is and if it can’t be fixed we are going to have to move it off the track and it ain’t going to be real comfortable with all 20 of us riding on that one tractor. We can pull both trailers but it is going to slow us down so we best be getting busy.” “Damn Carl if we find a ladder it is going to be one hell of climb to reach the surface. Get the hood open on that tractor and let’s get to it.” Both men opened the hood of the motor compartment while 4 others shined their torches on the motor. The motor was quite hot but that wasn’t unusual for one of these types of tractors. Carl did not want to touch the damn thing because he knew it would burn the skin right off of him. He pulled the gauge stick to check the oil and wiped it the first time stuck it back in. When he pulled it the second time and looked at it there was no oil on the stick. “Damnit, Ammon get some oil this thing is empty.” Ammon shook his head and reached into the tool and fluid compartment to get the oil. Carl flashed his torch at the track bed at the rear of the tractor and cursed to himself. There was a wet trail running back under the trailer. He jumped down from the tractor and walked to the rear of the trailer and sure enough there was the wet line running back and under Ammon’s tractor. Something had caused the oil plug or whatever to fall out of the oil pan on the motor. He started to go back when Manny Hofstadter spoke up. “What’s wrong with your lift Carl?” Carl stopped for just a moment and said “It’s out of oil so we are giving it a drink.” He continued to walk forward and Manny spoke again. “Yeah well how long you been driving it without oil, the damn thing was smoking a ways back and we could smell it and whatever is coming through the tunnel is heading right for us.”

Carl knew Manny was a pessimist and a trouble maker and he didn’t want to argue with the guy right at the moment. “Well Manny, we are fixing it and should be on our way shortly so just relax. Whatever is coming through the tunnel is hours away from us and we should be finding one of those ladders soon.” Manny continued “well I think we should turn around and go back, at least we had food and a place to sleep.” Carl was becoming irritated with Manny now and his voice was beginning to show it. “Listen Manny you heard the explosions or whatever back there, in fact you all heard them so something happened back there and it probably wasn’t good. For all we know the tunnel is blocked.” Manny wasn’t going to give up. “Well Mr. big shot, how about you listen. Whatever is coming is not going to be good for us and how do you know they are hours away. We all know the echo in these tunnels and they are deceiving at best but we are probably only about 50 miles from the factories and that is a hell of lot closer than wherever you think we are going. Yeah you say there is a ladder to the surface but damn I ain’t into climbing 200 feet on a damn ladder to get to the surface. I say we turn around and go back. We can deal with those soldiers, there can’t be more than ten or so and we can surprise them and get their weapons.” He had stood up in the trailer and was looking around at the others. The ones in the trailer in the rear had climbed out and walked forward and were standing around listening. Carl had seen them walk up as Manny spewed his dissent. Buzz Cirquet was the first to join with Manny and then two more spoke up and said they agreed with Manny.

Ammon had discovered the leak point in the oil pan and while the argument seemed to spiral upward. He managed to plug it and fill the pan with the extra quarts of oil. When he finished there were 6 people speaking Manny’s insanity of returning to the factories. He wiped his hands and walked back to stand with Carl. Carl hadn’t said anything back to Manny but now he did. “So you think going back is the best solution Manny and you other’ are you standing with Manny on this idea?” Manny looked at Ammon and asked “is that tractor operable or do we need to leave it?” Ammon looked at the trouble maker and said “I don’t know about you Manny but I ain’t leaving anything and we need to get moving right now so what you people going to do?” At that point Manny decided to take action, “Give me the keys for that rear tractor Ammon we are going to take it back and you and whoever else can go and meet whoever is coming from the other end.” Ammon had left the keys to the tractor he was driving in the ignition but he didn’t say anything as he looked at Carl. Carl spoke quickly and said “anyone wanting to go with Manny gather at the rear tractor right now and anyone wanting to go forward gather here.” Ammon finally spoke and told Manny the keys were in the ignition so Manny spun and hurriedly walked to the rear tractor. “Whoever is coming with me better get on board because I am getting out of here right now.”

Ammon walked back to his tractor and the trailer and grabbed his bag and stepped back as the others that were standing with Manny came and climbed into the trailer. Manny climbed onto the tractor and started it up. He shifted it into reverse and waited for everyone to get situated. In all including Manny there were 6 men and two women. Manny jammed the gear and stepped on the accelerator and the tractor began rolling backwards. Carl and the others watched them roll away and Carl asked everybody to get aboard and jumped on the tractor and turned the key. It took a few pumps and the motor turned over and a big puff of smoke blew out the smoke stack. The motor was running but sounded a bit rough as the 12 people rode eastward on the tracks.

The girls had come up on the people as they were arguing. They were invisible and waited as the one man seemed to be angry and then gathered the few that stood with him and started back Alice wanted to alert them but Tamara stopped her. Those men and women have made a choice and they will get one more before this is over. Let’s hope they make the right one and are able to escape. That man that has tricked them is destined to die down here. He was a traitor among the people and took favors from the soldiers to spy on the people. Before we cave this tunnel in completely we will see them one more time. Now we must give the others a way out and send them home. Tamara and Alice floated toward the tractor and trailer that was moving east at 15 mph. Alisha had floated ahead in the tunnel for many miles until she came across a ladder that was an escape route. She twisted into the no-time and materialized on the surface. The landmass was rolling with fields of wheat. She saw the cement cone and noticed the field had been plowed around it and planted that way. The farm house in the distance looked huge and she could see the grain silos and a big barn.

Garth Womack drove his big tractor with the plows over the rolling hills of his North 40 field. He was drinking his coffee and programming the tractor to makes its turns on the big field. His only son was doing the same in another tractor on the 40 acre field next to this one. He had 8 tractors at one time in the recent past. 6 of them sat idle in the big tractor barn now because the hired help he had for years had moved on due to no wages. Garth had slowly begun to loose the income to run this 2 section farm. His 1280 acres began to shrink in production because he couldn’t keep the fields plowed and planted without the help that moved on. He actually had two big 40 acre parcels that he ran his cows on and the food was drying up for them also. Out of 200 dairy cows he had already lost a good hundred of them to lack of food and care and a disease that supposedly had been cured at the turn of the century. How hoof and mouth got into his cows was a mystery but he suspected it was planted by the Limorish boys.

Chance Womack programmed his tractor to make its turns as usual and sat back in the chair. His Dad and he were the only ones driving and plowing now and it took a good week to plow 40 acres with just one tractor operating. He had just turned 17 and his Dad had dumped a whole lot more chores on him a year ago when the last farm hands had quit and moved on. This farm was going to die off like so many others had in the past 10 years. He argued with his Dad now more than ever about trying to keep it up. His first suggestions were to shut down one whole section and let it go to seed. That had taken a full year before his Dad finally agreed with him. His mother Elizabeth Womack and his Sister Cassie worked hard to keep the cows fed and milked but that was a loosing battle anymore. They all had to work 24/7 it seemed and still they were falling behind. The Emperor’s taxes on their land and foods were so unreasonable, they would never get ahead. He did not understand why this happened because everybody needed to eat but there were the bigger farms that played ball with the Emperor and his cronies and were rewarded. His Dad had told the Emperor to get lost over a number of demands from the State Farm bureau and so the harassments came in the most inconvenient times. Elizabeth and Cassie had been harassed and attacked many times from people that worked the big farm to their south. The City of Saint Francis was owned by the Emperor’s minions, and the big feed stores, Banks and just about all the places where anyone could buy farm equipment and necessities to operate their farms were controlled by Emperor Sympathizers or minions. The grain banks began to undercut the prices of the yields the Womack’s would harvest and that made it hard to purchase supplies to keep the farm going.

Chance remembered the fights at the school he would get into until he quit going. The farm hands were harassed when they were around and a couple of them were found dead. The police were controlled by the Emperor and never did anything unless it was to harass the family and other families that did not go along with the Emperor. Him and Cassie had both stopped going to the school and worked the farm now full time. Cassie had just turned 15 when she quit the school and that had been over a year ago. They hardly went to the city now and when they had to, it was always a problem for them. They had grown up here but the people they knew shunned them and the friends they had grown up with began to harass them also. Chance knew some other kids that lived toward the east on farms that suffered the same persecutions and they had to stay away from each other lest the ones in the city would attack them. Chance and Cassie both wanted to leave this place and find their way to a place where the people were friendlier. They had been to Wichita once and it was not a pleasant experience. It seemed that the people lived in pure fear. The gangs had taken over the City and the Police were using them to control the masses. They had also gone to Denver and that was even worse for them because that was the Emperor’s palace and the military/police were everywhere. Chance dreamed of going to Texas and had told Cassie about how it was a separate nation and it was like the old United States before the Emperor took it over. He told her that they would have to become citizens of that country and probably be able to finish their schooling and find good jobs. It was their parents they were worried about.

Chance had talked to his Dad about going to Texas and his Dad got angry with him. “You can’t just go running off boy” he said “and especially to a country that could be in war at any time. You know those people are all part of the military of Texas down there and they have no choice when it comes to being conscripted. You want to go and fight in a way? And besides that they have that bloody Mexico on their southern border.” Despite the misleading information and the dangers of Texas, Chance would continue to talk with his dad but it always ended with a heated argument and a few times it ended with his dad slapping him and telling him to get back to work. Cassie did the same thing with their mom but that always seemed to come to a point of Elizabeth telling her that they couldn’t leave the farm because it was their whole life and she wouldn’t leave Garth. The children were stuck and suffered along biding their time until they both turned 18 so they could leave.

Alisha knew that the people in the tunnel would reach the ladder soon but she wanted to see who lived on this farm. When they helped the people to the surface they were going to need a place to stay or go to first off. She flew toward the house and noticed the dust clouds to the north. She swooped that way and saw the big tractor plowing the ground. She looked eastward from there and saw the other dust cloud and when she flew that way she saw the second tractor plowing. So this is a working farm she thought. Perhaps these people could use some help. She swooped back toward the house and could see where repairs were needed on the building. She glanced around and saw the two big barns and one smaller one and could see that they too could use some repair. This place looked almost abandoned to her. She dropped onto a patchy lawn that hadn’t been mowed and had yellowish patches in various places. There was a wood picket fence surrounding the lawn area. The house had a garage to the side that faced the barns and she could see a long driveway winding its self toward the west and south. There were big cottonwood trees around the house and she could see a row of them along one side of the driveway. She was looking around when a side door opened and a young girl rushed out and hurried toward the first big barn. The girl was dressed in bib overalls and her Ginger colored hair was tied into braids as she almost ran across the yard toward the barn. Alisha wasn’t sure but she thought she heard the girl crying. A woman came to the door and called the girls name. “Cassie, you get back here young lady we ain’t done talking.” The girl continued toward the barn without a word. So Alisha levitated and followed her.

Cassie was hot under the collar. Her mother just would not listen to her. The farm was underwater in finance and her father had taken a loan against it to pay the hired help last year. It could not go on much longer and her father and brother were working their lives into the ground trying to keep it going. The only thing that would make it start going back up hill would be for at least 12 to fifteen people to come and work this farm and not ask for any wages until the farm started making money again. She also knew the Emperor was sucking the life out of the other farms except for the ones that he owned and the people worked for him. The reality of this damn world, in her eyes was the Emperor owned everything anyway. The vampire sucked the life out of the businesses in Saint Francis and it was run by criminal military police forces and the Emperor’s fat cats that owned the big stores and banks. She and Chance had been talking to mother and father for at least a year now to let this farm go and move to Texas. Her mother was stubborn and would not leave this place unless her husband gave it up and he was more stubborn than she was. Cassie and Chance both were so frustrated they were plotting to leave on their own soon and hopefully their parents would follow once the children were gone.

She walked into the barn and moved to the feed bins. The cows that were left were out in the pastures right now and would not be coming in until around 6pm or so. It had been very hard and heartbreaking to watch the cows drop over and die from lack of feed and then some how there had been an outbreak of hoof and mouth disease. They had been able to stop the spread but not before they had lost half the heard. Her and Chance suspected the disease was introduced by the boys from the YE farm to their south. There was always trouble from those people and they had even drove their trucks into the yard one night and threw torches into the small barn that held the hay and other feed. The silos were half full of wheat and corn but they could not sell the grains in Saint Francis for any decent price because the big corps that owned the co-ops controlled the pricing and anyone that did not play ball with the emperor was sanctioned with low pricing. She was crying softly as she opened the bins and began to shovel the feed into the trays for the cows so they could be milked. The machines didn’t work like they used to so she had to milk some by hand and that would take her until midnight most nights now. Her mother would help after she got the evening meal cooked and everybody was fed. This life used to be hard yes but not like now.

Alisha had entered the barn and was watching Cassie fill the trays with grain for the cows as the girl dripped tears down her face and onto the cement floor. She decided to speak to the girl. She had read her mind and knew what her and her brother were planning and she and Tamara and Alice could bring the help that was needed for this farm. She had to talk with Cassie first and prepare the family for what was coming. “Cassie, are you so sure you want to leave your parents right now?” Cassie dropped the shovel and spun around. The little girl was sitting on a bail that was resting next to the stacked bails that would be shredded for the cows during the milking hours. Cassie was taken aback and blurted out, “who the hell are you and where did you come from and how do you know my name?” All these questions fell from her mouth as she picked up the shovel and prepared to defend herself. Alisha was ready to disappear and dodge the shovel if she had to. She knew she had startled the girl but time was short now as the people in the tunnel were approaching the ladder.

Alisha took the chance and reached into Cassie’s mind and began to open some doors for the girl. She spoke thus, my name is Alisha and I have two sisters that are in the tunnel below that runs under your farm. We have some people that have escaped from a bad place and need a shelter up here on the surface. I am going to help you remember something you have forgotten Cassie. Cassie was very still as the voice in her head spoke. It felt soothing to her but she was very confused. She tried to speak in the mind and with her mouth but the words would not come. Alisha showed her a door and handed her a key. Unlock this door Cassie, the room inside holds your voice, your thoughts of speaking in the mind. Cassie was dreaming and took the key from the little girl. She stuck the key in the knob and turned it. The door opened and she winced from the bright light that emanated. She saw her self as a young child in another land or place and as she watched, the young child that was her walked into her. She felt the light explode in her mind and found her thoughts and words began to pour out of her mind.

I can see you Alisha, your sisters Tamara and Alice, will they come here also. Yes Cassie they will be bringing some people to help you and your family on this farm. They are without a place on this surface and you can provide that for them, you and your family. All they will need is a place to sleep and eat and they will work this farm and bring it back to health. You must help your mother to accept them. I will go and help your brother to open his mind so he can help your father. The people will come from the west this day. Let me show you some other doors to unlock. You and your brother have been locked up for a very long time. Alisha took Cassie’s hand in the dream of her mind and walked her to doors that held the secrets of invisibility and ability to move matter through time and space and many other gifts. She knew that these children and their parents along with some of the people from below would start healing this area from the corrupt darkness that had enslaved it. This took a very short time as time is measured and then she left Cassie to go and talk with her mother while she went to talk with Chance.

Re: Story of fiction and fantasy and science fiction

Postby LostNFound » Sun Jun 16, 2019 9:30 pm

Chance had dozed off as the tractor ran itself on the field. This was the only time it seemed that he could get some decent sleep these days. He didn’t know what his father did with his idle time while the tractors virtually did the job remotely but that was his business. The tractor was making its seventeenth turn on the field and just straightening out when Alisha lowered herself down and through the cab to rest on a spare seat. She could see the 10 set disk plows being pulled behind the tractor as they turned the soil open to the bright sunlight. The boy was almost snoring as she watched and was amazed that the tractor was driving itself. The computer screen at the front showed the progress and she could see the readouts of how many times the tractor had run east and west on this particular piece of land. She sat quiet for a few minutes just watching the boy and made a soft touch in his mind. He opened his eyes and stared at her for just a moment before he came fully awake and tried to back himself out of the driver seat. “What the” he said and then “Who the hell are you and how did you get in here?” Alisha wanted to laugh for just a moment but said “my name is Alisha and your sister and I know each other.” Chance looked at her with doubt on his face and looked around out the windows. “So how did you get in here? I don’t know anyone that would try to board this machine while it is moving like this, and why are you here again?” Alisha could feel that Chance was going to be a bit tougher to help but she forged on. Listen Chance, I know this seems strange to you but we must hurry. I am here to help you and your family.

Chance could hear this little girl speak to him in his mind and at first he was speechless. However, unbeknownst to anyone in his family, he could read minds somewhat and had been able to do it most of his life. He could speak in the mind and had used it to protect his family many times against the people that lived in Saint Francis and the boys that were always causing trouble from the farm south of them. The people were afraid of him mostly and would try to avoid him now. He spoke back to her in the mind and she was surprised but seemed to be very happy. Okay Alisha, you must be from a far away place and you can speak in the mind and you can see that I can too. So how is it you know my sister and where is she? I met her at the barn awhile ago and we got to know each other there. She knows how to speak into the mind and do many other things now that I helped her open locked doors. She is going to help your mother and I have told her that I have two sisters that are bringing some help to your farm so it can be healed. They are people that were homeless and still are but they can work and will not hesitate to help you and your family on this farm. They just need food and a place to sleep. You must help your father to except them. At that moment Chance chose to speak loudly. “You say these people are homeless, where have they come from?” “I think they may have been captured from the streets of Denver or that Airport over there.” Chance looked at the computer screen for progress and said “if they come from there my dad will not accept them. He does not like anyone that comes from that place.”

Alisha could see Chances mind but now that she knew he could read and speak in the mind she was reluctant to delve into his mind without his consent. Helping one that was completely locked up was one thing but invasion of an open mind was not a good thing to do. “Chance, may I ask if you can do special things beside read minds and speak telepathically?” Chance was taken aback with that question. It was so surprising to have anyone else ask him such a thing. He had been able to levitate objects and himself since he was 5 years old and made sure that no one ever knew. He experimented with it when he was alone and as he became older he would wander off by himself into the fields and go to the big pond to fish. He discovered one time when he was confronted by a pack of coyotes that he could make a thing go away. The critters came at him and he touched the first one and it disappeared. He had to touch a few more and the rest backed away from him and scattered. He was confused at first but when he had contemplated on what had happened. He realized that he thought the critters away to a far away place. He had to restrain himself when the other boys teased him and even beat him up at the school. All these thoughts ran through him and he finally read Alisha’s mind. She was very sincere and felt the love from the child. He finally told all the things he had discovered he could do. He didn’t know about Cassie but he suspected she might know some of things he could do. She never said anything to him or anyone else though.

Chance did something with the computer console and the tractor stopped. “Dad is on the field next to this one and I don’t know how far he is into getting it plowed but it’s a sure bet he will not stop for anything until he feels it is time to quit for the day.” “You can go to him and show him what you can do; it will cause him to stop because it is going to be hard for him I think. You must be prepared to convince him that there is help for this farm on their way. I see that you have a big bunk house out by the bigger barn. You know he does not want to leave here so he is going to have to accept some help from somewhere or he will loose this farm and his family.” Chance heard every word Alisha said and knew it to be true He and Cassie were planning to leave very soon and that would be the death knell for this farm and his father. “Okay, I will go and talk with father, you must be going to get those people I think and bring them here. I will try to get father up to the house and hopefully Cassie is convincing mother.” Chance opened the cab door and stepped out to the platform and levitated himself toward where his father was. Alisha turned into the no-time and back out into the tunnel next to the ladder. She could hear the tractor on the tracks but did not know how far away they were yet. Tamara, Alice, I am by a ladder to the surface and there is a place for the people to stay I think. How far are you? Hello sister we are approximately 1 mile from you as far as I can tell. Stay put we shall be there soon.

Carl had told everybody to keep a sharp eye out for the ladders that led to the hatches that led to the surface. They could be missed if people did not pay attention. The tractor was coughing and sputtering so Ammon had been feeding oil into the tube that ran into the pan. The smoke was getting worse as they traveled further into the east. Carl slowed down the speed thinking this would make it a bit easier on the motor. Ammon was riding on the tractor and moved closer to Carl and told him quietly that the tractor motor had run for awhile without oil and the moving parts could have been damaged and that was going to make it come to an end sooner than expected. “We are going to be on foot shortly so we should get these folks prepared to walk.” He no sooner finished saying that when the motor took one big cough and froze up. The tractor glided for about 10 feet and stopped dead on the tracks.

Tamara and Alice had been following and knew the escape ladder was just ahead. When the tractor coughed and stopped they knew it was time to introduce themselves to these people. They became visible and landed on the road. The ten people in the trailer began to stand up. Richard Larsen was the first to ask “what have we stopped for this time Carl?” Ammon was the one that answered. “The tractor is dead, we have to walk from here so gather your packs up and carry what you think you can handle, it might be a long walk till we find one of those ladders to the surface.” Danny Rodgers said “what about whoever is coming from the other end?” Carl hopped off the tractor and told everybody to be quiet. The silence was very loud it seemed. There weren’t any echoes from the east. They couldn’t hear the tractor that Manny and his people had taken either. Jennifer Weddon was still sitting on the bench in the trailer placing some additional food into her pack when she looked up and saw the two little girls standing on the road surface next to the tracks. She turned and grabbed Michelle Farber’s arm and quietly motioned for her to look at the girls.

Jennifer stood up and hopped out of the trailer. Michelle followed her and both women walked to the two girls that just stood and waited for them. “Who are you and were did you come from? Did you climb down here from one of those escape ladders?” The other people standing around the trailer and tractor all turned and watched as Jennifer and Michelle spoke aloud to the newcomers. Carl walked over and stood next to Jennifer and asked the same question. Alice was reading the peoples minds and hearts as Tamara spoke to them. “We have come from the surface and entered that underground base first. We watched you all escape and then we destroyed the factories and the Androids but not before they killed the scientists and the soldiers.” Ammon had walked up and now he asked “how did you two little girls destroy that entire city and factory?” Tamara and Alice both looked at the group of people. Alice spoke in the mind all the people here are good in the spirit and they are looking at living freely without being slaves. They are glad to be away from those factories and will do anything to live on the surface again. They all were homeless before they were captured and forced to work for those monsters that were creating the androids. Alisha is waiting at the ladder that is less than a half mile from us. She says that there is a farm on the surface that needs help and these people could work and live there if they are willing. She says that the people that live there will accept them but it will be a bit awkward at first but there are two children that have great abilities that are talking to their parents. We should send them to the surface without having them climb the ladder. It is a long way up and it would be easier to just send them up. Tamara spoke to Ammon. “We removed the structural columns that supported the entire building of that city.” Ammon chuckled and everyone started to chuckle with him. “So you’re telling us that you acted like Samson and pulled the building down? I am having just a bit of a hard time believing you at the moment.”

Tamara could see that this man was the hardest to convince what she had just said. The others were skeptical of course but they would accept their fates when they were taken to the surface. Ammon was very stubborn and it was understandable. It was understandable for all these people as their lives had been flipped into the world of loss and hardships far beyond what most people experienced. Alisha, can you come here from where you are through the no-time? Yes sister I can, are the people ready to go to the surface? We can take them from there. They will be but we must show them what we are capable of first. Alice, you must go and retrieve the ones that are trapped at the end of the tunnel. Leave Manny and the two men that have hurt the others. They will be buried alive in the cavern full of water and debris and believe in the end. We will meet you on the surface with the two women and the three men.

Ammon didn’t know what to believe about these little girls tales. He suspected they had come down one of the ladders somewhere close by. That gave him hope if nothing else. He was sad for them because they were probably abandoned by their parents if they had any. He started to ask the one that spoke to them where the ladder was when he was standing on the second floor causeway of the Denver Airport. The little girl was standing in front of him and he slowly turned around to see the railing. There were no other people and that gave him the spooks. He turned and walked to the railing and looked down at the empty building. There were no people anywhere and he wondered what had happened. He turned around and the little girl was floating in the air. His hair on the back of his neck stood up and he thought about running away as fast as he could.

“Do not be afraid, Ammon I have brought you into a future time line. This could happen if I and my sisters do not stop the emperor from using weapons that he has access to. The weapons were banned in the past but there were some overlooked and we know they are in the State of Kansas. There are others in the world that is being looked after by others of my family. My name is Tamara. Ammon stared at the little girl and asked. “Where are the people? How is it that you can be in the air, how did you bring me here?” Tamara knew this man would be hard to convince. She knew it when she decided to bring him here. “Listen Ammon, in this time line, the Emperor is down in the city where you and those others are now part of the Android army. He was able to launch his missiles at Texas which in turn caused Russia and China plus a number of other countries to launch their hidden arsenals. The world became a nuclear nightmare for a short period of time and as we stand here the billions of people on the world are dying off. In this time line the human race will cease to be dominating within a span of 10 years and those androids that the Emperor has so graciously created will begin to takeover. You do not want to know how this all turns out.”

Ammon shivered from the description this little girl gave. “You have brought me here because I don’t believe you? Are you a God and those others you talk about?” No Ammon I am not a God. I am a human just as you are only I am able to access the gifts that the Divine Creator bestowed upon us all. That is how I am able to do the things I do. It is for the good of mankind always.” Ammon had moved to a bench and sat down. His mind was full of questions and memories. He was remembering when his parents were still alive and they lived in a place that was close to the ocean. He remembered the things he did when he was very small that baffled his father but not his mother. She guarded him closely and spoke softly to him to not do certain things because he would be taken away and never see her or his father again. He remember when he stopped doing the strange things and his mind became blank at that point. He looked at Tamara and said “you say you are human and can all humans do the things you do then? Even the ones like that crummy little used car salesman?” Tamara knew where this was going and said “Yes and no Ammon. Would you prefer to hear the answers in a better place than this?” Ammon stood and looked at the girl. “I would prefer that yes; can you take us back to the tunnel?” “Yes I can but wouldn’t it be better if we go back to the surface?” Ammon watched the girl reach out and he was still shaking his head when Jennifer hugged him. He was standing in a big wheat field with the others plus Opal Rivers and Diana Jorgensen and three of the men that had left with Manny. Manny and his two trusted toads as he had called them were missing. The sun was falling toward the horizon in the west when the three little girls began to talk to them about the farm and the people and how they could do the things they did.

Alisha had materialized along side of Alice just as Tamara and the man named Ammon disappeared. Carl and the others witnessed the appearance and disappearance and gathered themselves closer. Alisha spoke to Alice and told her about the surface and the farm and how they could take the people up. Carl spoke up and asked “where has the other little girl taken Ammon?” The people were almost frightened of these girls and they could tell. Alisha spoke to the man, “Carl, Tamara has taken Ammon to a future place and time line and she will bring him back soon. Meanwhile are all of you ready to go to the surface?” Jennifer spoke up quickly. “How do you propose to do that there is no ladder here, did you come down one and how did you just appear? We can’t leave Ammon down here.” Alisha and Alice looked at each other and said “Yes there is a ladder just ahead but we did not come down that way. We can take you to the surface without climbing a ladder. It would be a hardship for you to do that and carry all your packs.” Michelle Farber stepped forward and asked “are you witches?” The girls almost laughed at that but Alice said “no Michelle we are not witches, we are just two girls that can do extraordinary things and we can show you how to do some also.” “Magic then, I have seen people that can do magic tricks but your appearing and disappearing is a bit beyond what I have seen.”

Carl finally spoke and said “enough of this, what is it you girls want from us and why are you following us. Are you orphans and somehow found your way down here?” “No Carl we are not orphans either but we are looking for some dangerous weapons that the Emperor has down here somewhere and we mean to destroy them. You may not believe what Tamara said about us destroying the city back there but we are capable of making things disappear or become non-existent. If you want to believe it is magic then so be it but we will help all of you escape this place before we continue with our mission.” Alisha had spoke this to Carl and then asked if everyone was ready to get some sunshine for a change. “Tamara and Ammon will be meeting us on the surface so prepare your selves.” She turned to Alice and said in the mind, when we get them up there you can go and get the others. They will be walking back because the other three men threw them off the tractor. Let’s go up. Both girls began to touch the people and the next thing they all realized was they were standing in a field of wheat and the sun was warm with a breeze blowing across the land. Alisha asked them to sit down and she would talk some more to them. Alice disappeared and the people were becoming used to this action now.

In the tunnel about 2 miles from the entrance that was completely blocked by the building debris and other stuff Alice found the two women and three men stumbling alone on the road beside the rails. When she appeared she waited for them to walk to her. They looked like they had been beaten by someone and were forlorn as they stumbled along. A tall woman seemed to be leading them while she held another woman who had a black swollen eye and was walking with a hitch in her leg. The men were helping each other also as if they had all been in a vehicle accident or something. The Tall woman was the first to see Alice as they came closer and stopped suddenly. Alice spoke quickly, “do not be afraid, I am here to help you. We must leave this place because it will soon receive a rush of water filled with debris that will be deadly and the ceiling will fall in. The woman that was being helped by the tall woman was crying and the tall woman did not hesitate to speak to the others and tell them to hurry. Alice waited until they all moved close to each other and touched them. They all found themselves on the surface in the wheat field with the others.

Manny and his two henchmen Buzz and Roland had argued with Opal and Diana about coming back to the factory. George, Juan and Corbin had begun to see how Manny and his two minions were trying to control everyone by the time they had driven the distance back. Manny stopped the tractor a few miles from the entrance to the factories and told everyone to get out. Diana had been stubborn so Manny grabbed her and hit her in the face with his fist and then threw her down causing her to twist her left leg. George Harris tried to attack Manny and was beaten to the ground. Juan Reager and Corbin Tyson both tried to help George but the two gorilla’s Buzz and Roland beat them onto the ground, Opal watched the altercation while she was helping Diana. She had to take a scarf and wipe the blood from her face. Diana’s leg had been twisted very badly. It wasn’t broken but she was sure Diana was in great pain from it. She even began to think that Diana’s hip could be dislocated. The three men that had been beaten were bloody in the face and might have a broken rib or two. Manny had produced a pistol from somewhere and that was the end of their journey with Manny and his minions. Manny, Roland and Buzz got back on the tractor and continued toward the factories. As they walked back toward the others Opal knew it would be days before they could reach them and they would be long gone anyway. Her hope had been dashed away with the beatings and then being left. When she saw the little girl something inside of her leaped with joy. And then the little girl had taken them to the surface.

Manny and the two that were with him stopped the tractor at the edge of a complete clog of building debris. There were huge chunks of concrete and steel mixed with wood and other types of materials. The tunnel was completely blocked. None of them knew how deep this stuff was or how far it was to the big cavern. Manny could see small rivulets of water on the road bed and leaking through the 20 foot high debris block. Something did not seem right. How could this be here? What had happened to cause this? The men remembered the explosions or rumblings when they were well on their way from this place but could not equate what it might be. Manny began to realize the enormity of this sight. They all knew about the huge city that was encased within one giant building of the cavern but to see this debris blocking the tunnel was a mystery. As they stood looking at the sight they could hear a creaking and moaning. They watched as the debris began to move toward them. Buzz was the first to turn and run back toward the tractor. As he ran he yelled to the others, WE GOT TO GET OUT OF HEAR, THERE IS SOMETHING PUSHING THAT DEBRIS PLUG TOWARD US. COME ON MANNY AND ROLAND LETS GET THE TRACTOR HEADING BACK. Manny did not want to believe what Buzz was yelling about but he began to back peddle because the debris was moving and the water rivulets were growing in size. Roland had turned and ran as well and reached the tractor. He jumped into the trailer and said “let’s get the hell out of here.” Manny had walked fast then ran finally and jumped on the tractor and stuck the key in and turned it on. Just as he shifted the gear into forward the debris pile pushed forward with a wrenching, grinding and loud crashing sound. Manny stomped the accelerator down and the little tractor jerked forward. Roland was looking back at the plug of debris and watched in slow motion as it rushed toward them. He was screaming when the big I beam flew into him and the debris overtook the little tractor and it became part of the debris as the ocean of water pushed it all through the tunnel. It was if they were roaches or bugs on the edge of a giant plug of hair as it was being flushed by something called plumbers helper. Roland had died instantly while Buzz tried to climb onto the tractor and was knocked forward into Manny by a large chunk of concrete that crushed him and Manny both as the tractor was pushed sideways and then forward with all the debris and water. The tunnel was flooded for 5 long miles with debris and water before it all ran its course and lay in a pool in a shallow area of the road bead. At the beginning of the tunnel the ceiling began to crumble in and with a loud boom that was not heard by anyone, the ceiling caved in for a stretch of two complete miles filling the tunnel with a solid plug of mud and rock.

Seventeen people sat in a circle listening to three children that floated three feet off the ground in a sitting position. The field of wheat swayed and moved in waves as the wind blew it to and fro. The farm house and its out buildings could be seen through the big cottonwood trees that surrounded it. There were groves of these trees growing to the north and bordering the southern borders of the big fields. The sun was low in the west but not yet setting on the distant mountains that could be seen on the horizon. The air was beginning to cool in the late afternoon. The people were being told about the farm and its owners and how they were in need of help to keep the farm running. They were told how the three children were able to bring them all to the surface and how they could do many things through being able to open doors in their minds and access the gifts that had been locked away by outside sources eons ago to the human race. The girls had listened to their stories of how they had become homeless and how they had been captured from the streets and taken to the underground city and factories below the big airport to make those scary android creatures. The people had finally believed the children and their magic ways and asked many questions. The children told them that they would come and help them learn how to open doors in their own lives but they had to complete their mission first and it was vitally important for them to destroy the weapons that the Emperor was bound to use. Ammon spoke to them and told about his trip to the future time line that was the end of this world due to the Emperor being able to use nuclear weapons. He actually named the deadly weapons. The girls finally told them that the family was being prepared to receive them when they went there and it would be a place for them to live. They told all of them how the world was being healed and it was coming in time.

Danny Rodgers had listened to the conversations about the special things the girls could do and that made him think of the things he could do when he was a little boy living in Wyoming. He never told anybody about being able to read thoughts from others or being able to levitate objects. He had joined the Air Force when he was 18 and that was one year before the Emperor had taken control of the country. He was stationed in various places around the world but wound up being stationed at the underground facility below Kansas City. He had been assigned to the ballistic missiles that were in underground silos scattered across Kansas and Nebraska. His job was to guard the control station in the tram tunnel. It was when the nuclear treaties came and the emptying of the facility to be shipped to China for the war that he decided to desert the emperor’s military. He made his way to Denver and disappeared into the homeless community. When he was captured with 4 other homeless he thought he would be caught and shot but instead he was taken to the underground base below DIA. No one every recognized him so he remained quiet and worked with the others. He knew the tram had ceased to be operational and he knew where the control station was located but he had thought the missiles had been rendered obsolete.

I can tell you where that control station is for those nuclear missiles. You can look into my mind and see if you so choose.
Danny couldn’t wait any longer to allow these extraordinary children to speak to him by telepathy. Alice was the one that first knew that Danny could communicate with the mind. She had picked it up when she first reached into the peoples minds in the tunnel. She had told Tamara and Alisha but told them that he was keeping it a secret and had done so since he was only a child. The girls decided to wait for him to give his consent before they would speak to him in the mind. Alice was the first to talk to him in the mind. We are very glad you have decided to speak in the mind to us Danny. We have waited for you to finally speak. We know you have kept this a secret for a long time but now you can begin to use your abilities and exercise them without retribution. Will you come with us to destroy the deadly weapons? Danny was surprised at first that these girls knew that he could hear them in the mind and they could hear his thoughts. He realized they were like him and could do much more so he merely said I cannot do the things you do. I can only hear your thoughts and speak to you in the mind. I can levitate objects but I do not know how to move myself like you can. I did work for the Air force and was stationed in that underground base below Kansas City so that is how I know about what you are looking for and can show you in my mind. Alice could feel the deeper hesitation in this man as he uneasily spoke to them in the mind. Danny, we will help you to open your locked doors. You are already ahead of these others because most of them are locked up completely. It always takes time to unlock people’s minds but everybody on this world has the capabilities to do what we do. The gifts were given eons ago and then locked up by those that wanted to control our species.

We shall take these folks to the farm where they will meet the Womack’s and become part of the family as they settle in. Cassie and Chance the children are open in the mind and they are helping their parents to open their minds. All of your friends will learn in time to open their minds also but you can come with us if you choose and we will show you many wonders that you will understand. Come, let us go and meet the farmers. The girls lowered themselves to the ground and Tamara asked all of them as she turned around and looked at them, “So do you believe us now? We have brought you out of that dark place below into the light and are taking you to meet the people of this farm so you can help them. They will help you in turn. You are going to a new home, one you have not had for a very long time.” Carl was the first to stand up and Ammon was next and the people all stood up. Carl spoke to Tamara and said “we are ready” and waited for the girls to lead the way. The group of people walked toward the farm house with the three children leading them.
