Michael begins with an esoteric analysis of The Fool.
The Fool 0 - is unnumbered; sometimes represented as 0 (the first) or XXII (the last) Major Arcana in decks.
The Fool, he stands at a peak. That can be interpreted in many ways...the Fool figure himself descends from the ARCTIC HOMELAND - notice the white mountains in the background, and his descent. Why add those mountains and suggest a descent from a 'high place.'
We can't understand anything about our times, or about history, unless we realize what has been hidden from us.
The tarot symbolically refers to this great fall, of the sun and of mankind. A new time, a new calendar, a new zodiac, and a new mythos.
The tarot was created to commemorate what had been, and to encapsulate in pictures the new mythos.
The tarot makers didn't mean for us to "get it" intellectually. They don't work on that banal level.
The pack on his back tells us of the little that remained from the past. It was mostly lost. Modern historical man wasn't left a hell of a lot, but a tarot deck will fit in that little bag he's carrying. Hence the carefree look on his face.
it's not completely lost after all.
