The Visitation
He hailed from distant reaches
A Messenger of love
He viewed our dark and ailing world
Looking from above
Into the belly of the beast
The nexus of the storm
An angel fell from heaven
And into infant form
The tide was turned against him
He hardly had a chance
His light was dimmed, his wings were trimmed,
By pain of circumstance
A voiceless prophet pinioned
By avarice and need
To blind the lesser people
To their self destructive greed
The evil rode against him
To snuff the eternal flame
And around him rose a Legion
Of the holy ancient names
He hardly spoke a word
But when he looked into the heart
He saw with dauntless clarity
Every machinated part
His life will be a battle
A struggle on all sides
But the fates align, and beneath their sign
He watches through a million eyes
Unknown soldier
Voiceless hero child
Be proud of who you are
Teach them to speak your language
Fallen angel rise again.
Brotherhood falls asunder at the touch of fire!
He finds his fellow guilty of a skin
Not coloured like his own, and having power
To enforce the wrong, for such a worthy cause
Dooms and devotes him as his lawful prey.
~William Cowper
