Like an empty lakebed
Begging for rain.

So sweet, the water
That carved this channel through the clay.
The smooth stone and dry dust
Call out for its merciful touch.

Like an entire desert,
Smelling the spring rain approaching
Over distant plains and hills,
I want you.

Your thunder and your perfume
Offer oblivion to my tortured senses.
But like a man crucified,
I drown without water.

Opening my heart to you,
Knowing the end to this story,
Being so far from that end,
I wonder at the blood.

How can I still be alive
After losing so much
Of what everyone says
Makes me human?

I am not a god
I am not a man
And I am not at peace.


Find me the place where the wind makes its bed,
