Although covered in snow,
Their branches as bowed
As the frozen sails of ships,
The trees punctuate the landscape,
Vessels immired by a forgotten and icy waste.
They plead wordlessly, wrestle motionlessly,
With God.
A breath of hope is all they need,
A respite for their frozen seed.
The entire earth cries out for it!
Yearning toward the morning when
The sunshine brings its warmth again,
The animals and people lean against their common misery.
The earliest bird to greet that dawn
Will sing a triumphant, cheering song!
All others will take heed of it,
And rising up they'll join with him,
To feel the zephyr rushing in,
The warm and welcome morning breeze
That thaws the heart and lifts the freeze!
Leaving winter's cave behind,
Its sad circle of stones remind
Us of the grief of it.
But stepping out into the grass
We'll all grasp hands and join in dance
To thank the One who hears our cry
And sends his joyous springtide nigh.
A breath of hope will transform into a season of paradise,
The sun's kiss chase away the night.

A Breath of Hope
Brotherhood falls asunder at the touch of fire!
He finds his fellow guilty of a skin
Not coloured like his own, and having power
To enforce the wrong, for such a worthy cause
Dooms and devotes him as his lawful prey.
~William Cowper
