Lots of police at transit center where the homeless hang out. It seems common sense but bam. Called that one @_@

He finds his fellow guilty of a skin
Not coloured like his own, and having power
To enforce the wrong, for such a worthy cause
Dooms and devotes him as his lawful prey.

In Seattle there is a day room for women and children, called Mary's place. During my month of homelessness in 2011, I was a frequent visitor to this dayroom.

It had kind of a down home artsy churchy coffe bar kind of air. And although strict, the staff were friendly.

Amazon.com just donated their previous office building to Mary's Place. There is space enough for 200 family units thanks to Amazon.

Sorry for bashing corporations in general because companies do often stand up when communities fall down.

If only Walla Walla could figure it out...

Wa state focusing slowly on crib death. Will they realize vaccination is at least as risky to infants as sharing an adult bed?

Please read this Seattle Times piece on Marys Place:

Writer helps homeless women discover words’ healing power

A writing group at Mary’s Place, a shelter for women, children and families, led to a book, “Original Voices,” and the authors invite the public to hear them read at a library event on Sept. 12.

Earlier this month, and in the span of a few days, a King County task force proposed opening safe-consumption sites for homeless addicts, and Seattle Mayor Ed Murray hired the city’s first Cabinet-level director of homelessness.

At the same time, groups proposed reforms in the way the city sweeps unsanctioned homeless camps.

I wonder how much we know of the community for which we have spent so much time and tax money — and which, every day, tests the temperature of our hearts.

If there is anything at all you can do without putting yourself at risk, to help our local and nationwide homeless survive this cold snap, I beg our readers to try.

My spouse in Seattle reports that at least two victims were found dead frozen, of exposure to the elements, this morning.

I grieve for these preventable deaths :(
P.s. the local press over there tried to pin the blame on alcohol.

Did beer make it snow?
Did liquor tell them they were barred from the shelters?
Was it wine who evicted them from the Jungle?

...

At least in WW I assume the police notice this shit and intervene. Seattle, your curse is that in spite of all your wealth, you Are the jungle.

I did not see the deaths mentioned in Seattle Times Morning Brief, an email list they send daily.

Remember Mr Gutman's slant on the Jungle evictions a few months ago? They said it was what the city needed.

What makes a city, I ask?
Is it the streets, the walls, the roofs, the parking lots and alleys, or is it the people?

Do you think the City of God is a place on earth?
No, it is a place in the heart, and I'm sad to say that it is too cold there for life to thrive.

Your city is whatever you want it to be.
Take it back.
