(I'm not good at poems that rhyme, bear with me!)Escape Velocity
Falling together from wide space,
Into this narrow place--
Combining, bubbling, twisting, congealing
Like stars being born into the pain of limitation.
Yet as we forget our former selves,
Ironically the body's vessel recalls
A dream of that familiar state
Everywhere and nowhere and everything they hold.
There is so much knowledge and so little life.
And when like children reaching for star fruit,
We attain some, obtain some, not realizing
We have everything we need inside...
That is why the hunter seizes the bird,
Clipping its wings, fingers raking at its brain,
The masters say There can be no road from here,
Except our road, as they cut the wires.
A knife of lightning severing golden threads,
In my head i feel my feet touch ground forever
They have taken flight from me...
I touch the scarless wound and remember void.
Not so simple and easy as avoidance, habit, rearing-
The suggestion of the horrible truth
Of how when a child flies too high,
Like Icarus, the invincible sun does not forgive.
But tell the bird it is in prison does no good.
That is why they cut the golden threads,
Shear the white white wings,
That is why they built this cage.
The messenger is running forever, forever,
But the hands close too soon to feel the golden baton.
It matters not how quickly he runs,
Because he has been rendered invisible.
Blinded by science and misplaced trust,
We turn our backs on a higher world
With scissors and needles and knives of lightning
The evil ones turn to the other birds.
We are trapped.
