Demilitarizing Space: The Call

Post by Naga_Fireball »

It feels absurd to talk about the issue of demilitarizing space, having been in the US Air Force for over 5 years. Our air force and navy are world class, if only due to the vast organizational skills of the United States military. They are not going to want to listen to an argument that takes toys out of their hands and turns back the clock.

Image

Daylight Savings Time, perhaps a local phenomenon. But it affects the pace of the world. Similarly, so does that fictitious yet all too real concept of the Doomsday Clock. Where are we on that clock? Can flesh and blood contend against the machinery of war?

Why should we reduce the hostile hardware accumulated in local space, some might ask? Because it would help increase global accountability, to have an honest census regarding the actual amount of garbage in orbit, and to address the hazard.

Image

As bad as Hanford? No one's really talking about it, but although we humans scramble to prepare for any sort of terrestrial disaster, are we too naive to visualize the risks of militarized space?

It's tough to spend time worrying about off planet concerns, when we have things like the Dakota Access Pipeline being contested, the Gulf of Mexico struggling to recover from the Macondo disaster, Nabucco failing, tension with Russia.

Can't we all just agree to protect our share of what's down here, and treat space like the sacred thing that it is, the doorstep of Heaven?

Image

Christ himself claimed, "in my father's house there are many mansions, i go to prepare a place for you". Do we just wipe our collective asses on that promise of life, and keep infighting, or realize that in all likelihood we have been contacted quite regularly by off planet intelligence, begged and warned to change our bloody ways?

Would it be so strange to think that some of the special people who have visited our world had origins outside its confines?

Why would we open the gate of someone else's yard, only to throw our trash there, to use it as a testing ground for the tools of greed, hate, war, and shortsightedness?

Image

King Solomon said, there is nothing new under the sun. Ie no matter how advanced we think we are, with our Masers and MAHEM, our CERNS and bells and whistles and God only knows what else, we are never ahead of God.

I am not trying to be a sectist or a bible beater. I'm saying there's never been a better time than now, to seriously start an actual honest dialogue with the other superpowers and agree to go no further except in peace.

Dooms and devotes him as his lawful prey.

It doesn't have to be this way:

Frank Herbert predicted that superpowers and police states become a self sustaining cycle of paranoia.

To respond to an enemy police state requires the respondent to form his own police state, etc, to the point at which we are a greater threat to ourselves than to one another.

Seems like once dinosaurs and stuff were wiped out, humans mught have found peace with each other, but we use apparently any excuse to dig into that foxhole and profit from the general misery.

I hope Mr Trump uses his positive relationship with Mr Putin to dismantle some of the pointless war machine.

The human race is chasing its own shadow pretending to be terrified. .. can you imagine how disgusted off worlders would be?

We killed off the predators and became the dominant species only to fall prey to xenophobia and classism.

Even Stephen Hawking was poisoned by the toxic human logic that determines how much fear of the unknown is appropriate.

Mr. Trump,

You cannot build the identity of America solely around responding to the nuclear threat.

As you well know, it is partly because of the oil and gas industry that we became embroiled in such a quagmire as nuclear first strike.

Strong firepower is certainly needed in order to protect such a mammoth infrastructure.

But those days are nearly past us if you so choose. With God's grace, solar energy will give humanity the power to locally self sustain. No longer will we need to transport the majority of our produce and manufactured goods over long distances.

This can't happen without you, Mr President Elect. We need you to be the wedge that breaks away the hope for our future from the rotten chains of the recent past.

Don't let them know you are afraid, because to a true believer, any price is worth correcting a 100 years of error.
